Rhetorical Analysis Of My Dad Is A Liar !
The commercial “My Dad is a Liar!” by MetLife, a global insurance company, displays the emotional and awe-inspiring sacrifices “Daddy” has to do for his young daughter. The young girl and her father are walking towards school meanwhile Daddy is reading what his daughter wrote about him, potentially, a school assignment. The commercial implies the common people’s reality in order to have and provide a decent lifestyle and education for their children through the usage of ethos, pathos, and manipulation of the light and audio that appears on the ad.
Cue the happy song and the cute little girl’s voice. “Daddy is the sweetest daddy in the world,” she narrates. At a glance, the young girl seems to be too young to read or write but surprises us with how developed her reading skills are as well as her penmanship and spelling abilities. Through the use of ethos, this young naïve looking girl is actually very observant and intelligent. The reader should feel like the little girl’s character is trustworthy because as she points out the truth about her father’s lies about their financial stability.

Pathos is very effective such as when conveying the shifts of the mood the commercial aims to make the audience feel. The easygoing and jolly background music transitions into a serious and more melancholic tone once the sharp pause hits and immediately, the little girl says, ”He Lies”. There is a slow piano continuing on the background for each phrase when the little girl starts pointing out his lies. I began to feel sadness and sympathy for her father’s sacrifices because my parents are as well part of the labor-intense working class. The connection this commercial was able to make with my personal life built a stronger sense of trust and sympathy between the little girl and

    The music was noticeable as it was soft and relaxing piano music, which helped create the emotional tone of the ad. There were also white colors everywhere along with bright lighting in the room, which made the ad appear innocent and light-hearted.
