Amphetamine was considered one of the main psychoactive agents for a long time. It is widely used to enhance mental and physical performance, for the treatment of narcolepsy (sleepiness), attention deficit disorder, depression, the effects of encephalitis and other diseases associated with somnolence, lethargy, apathy, asthenia. During World War II, amphetamines were given to American and British pilots, sailors, tankers, scouts, as a means to relieve fatigue and to increase vigilance. German soldiers actively used methamphetamine ("Pervitin"), but only orally and in small doses.
After the war, passion and widespread amphetamines began in Japan by US soldiers, then demobilized soldiers in the 50-ies of amphetamines spread in the US and later in Europe. Especially the popular use of amphetamines in England and Sweden. They are also common in Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands. In Asia - China and …show more content…
College students in in particular make up a significant population of those abusing Adderall.
Athletes Athletes may abuse Adderall to counter fatigue and enhance performance during practice and in competitions. In 2012, Adderall abuse contributed to a record-breaking year of drug-related suspensions in the National Football League.
People with eating disorders People struggling with eating disorders may abuse Adderall because it suppresses appetite. If someone with an eating disorder becomes addicted to Adderall, they will often require treatment that cares for both issues simultaneously.
