Renaissance M Personal Statement
An aspiring programmer, an artist in both traditional mediums of drawing and painting, violinist, philosopher, actor, and athlete, all of these words I would use to describe myself. A depiction of the modern renaissance man. This upcoming fall, I am planning to begin my journey towards achieving a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science while double minoring in Fine Art. While I am in college I will be working with a technology company named Glyph Mobile LLC, located in Upstate New York, as a part time programmer. Afterwards, I hope to continue my work with Glyph Mobile as a full time employee while working on art as a side job. But ultimately, I have ambitions to start my own technology based software business perhaps emphasizing on the artistic industry. Computer science has always been the one thing I knew that I would be getting myself into and anyone else around me would agree. As a child, I became obsessed with everything about it. Making small mini games or getting new programming books truly opened the world of both computer science and art. I would spend …show more content…
But most notably, this previous October I was given the privilege to be able to help the Nicaraguan people through a Springfield mission's program named Project HOPE. Through them we built housing, fed the truly neediest of their people, and played and cared for a lot of the little children as well as a large group of orphans. All around we tried to show these people the love of Christ, Christianity being a very important part of my life. The trip really gave me a love for the people there who are in some of the most unfortunate of circumstances and I'd very soon like to go back. A large part of the definition of what the word success means to me, is to be able to help organizations like Project HOPE and actually make a positive difference in the world both financially and in physical

From personal experiences my definition of success has differed greatly from time to time. This is similar to how success of a gang member is dependent on where they currently happen to be in their lives. On one day success was defined as getting out of bed and staying awake for me, just as how a gang member thinking about changing his life. Getting out of bed is quite an insignificant act on its own, but in that period of my life I was not able to function and this was considered to be quite successful. A gang member simply thinking about his life may not be a significant act on its own, but when he has…

For as long as I can remember, I was interested in math and science. Math comes naturally to me—I enjoy the consistency that goes with it and completing each challenging problem. Similarly, I can never get enough of science, especially marine biology. Of all my subjects, science is the one I pursue most frequently outside of school; however, I always wanted something more. I was introduced to programming in my AP computer science class, and from the first day, I knew it was for me. Computer science is an excellent amalgamation of the math and science I love, embedded with the perfect amount of logic. I have enjoyed every second of my computer science class and, no matter what, hope to continue the field in the future.…

I was a young mother raising three daughters, so I postponed it believing I could have my second act, career wise, once they completed their education. What I did not anticipate was a personal health crisis impacting my plans. In 2007, my doctors diagnosed me with idiopathic kidney disease. That diagnosis left me battling for my life at a young age, changing my career plans and personal priorities. To keep my hand in the professional world while I battled the disease, I co-founded DormSmart.com, an e-commerce company. As I became more involved in building this online business, I quickly realized that the availability and affordability of quality web design services for small business owners is sorely lacking in the e-commerce industry. The internet is the wild west where anyone can stake their claim selling design and development services even if they are unable to adequately provide them. This realization further fueled my desire to pursue a career in the field of computing, specifically web design and development. So once fully recovered, I transferred ownership of DormSmart.com and began devoting my time to researching graduate programs to achieve my goal, begin my second…

My most meaningful accomplishment has been in the recent year. Winning the election for Florida A&M Universities Student Government Association Vice President, for it to be stripped away from us from out past University President. My accomplishment was of course acquiring our position after a 6-month period, but the greatest accomplishment I’ve witnessed was resilience within myself. Through this imperial experience, I’ve realized the importance of fighting for whats right. For this reason, I’ve realized that it’s necessary to do whats morally correct -- this was how I measured my success. Not by the position, but how I went about handling the turmoil of not getting everything you want when you want it. This situation served as an example,…

What does success mean to you? Success is the ability to overcome challenges and to get to your desired outcome. Success depends on you, it is dependent only on what your desired outcome is. According to Abraham Lincoln success is expressed as “always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Abraham is expressing the importance of the resolution of success. I agree with Abraham there is nothing better than the resolution to succeed. To be more successful you have to make changes in your life, some of these changes are not so easy and conflict with yourself but in order to succeed there must be a change. It was in 2008 when I went on my first mission trip to Peru. I was thirteen and very immature; however, I thought the complete opposite. I went on this trip with the expectations that I would not have a good time. I didn’t like the idea that I was leaving California for two weeks during the end of my summer to go somewhere that I had no choice in going. Every single thought and expectation that I had were proven to be all wrong. While I was in Peru, I was greeted daily by some of the most loving and caring people I had ever met. These people showed me how selfless a person could be. Living a life without the necessities that I thought we were so critical like a cell phone, makeup, and the latest fashion was not the slightest of concern to them. The people I met in Peru were mainly of the poor class. These poor people in Peru had very little money, but they had hearts filled of gold. Although being able to feed their family for the week is a constant struggle, they remain to appreciate life to the fullest while loving and embracing everything around them. Witnessing all of these occurrences, my mind was expanded and I felt rediscovered to a type of living life I had never felt.…
