Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans The U.S. Supreme Court put into affect a new law that would combine both white and black students into public schools in 1971. T.C. Williams High School was one of the first schools to integrate this new rule, which was located in Alexander, Virginia. This was an opportunity for someone like Herman Boone (a black man) who was hired on as an assistant coach to prove his leadership and talent in coaching football coming from a double A to a triple A district. He was offered the head coaching job after a short period of time by the school board, but it seemed as if he wasn’t sure to take it. After a gathering outside his house of black people showing their support in believing in him, he decided to take the job with ambition in having a vision of changing the way of that towns’ mindset on discrimination. Coach Boone was put into a political position to fail, but with a goal in place, Herman Boone and his tenacity had one thing in mind. After introducing himself to the coaching staff, Coach Boone stated one thing to Coach Yoast, which was the coach he replaced for head coach, “I can guarantee you this coach, I come to win”. With the tension that was within the town and football players in the beginning of this film, Herman Boone had to figure out a solution that would eliminate that racism and discrimination within the players on the team, his coaching staff, and the community in order to create a winning tradition for the mixed colored Titans. Right before school started, Coach Boone and his team went away to a secluded area for football camp. This camp would determine if you would be on the team. From the start of camp, Coach Boone set the tempo with all the players by letting them know, “If you survive camp, you will be on the team”.
