The role I expect to hold in the near future would be a Federal Judge. Judges should strive to conduct themselves with integrity so as to sustain and enhance public confidence in the judiciary. Judges should make every effort to ensure that their conduct is above reproach in the view of reasonable, fair minded and informed persons. Judges, in addition to observing this high standard personally, should encourage and support it observance by their judicial colleagues. Judges, of course, have private lives and should enjoy, as much as possible, the rights and freedoms of citizens generally. Neither the judge’s personal development nor the public interest is well served if judges are unduly isolated from the communities they serve. Judicial fact-finding, an important part of a judge’s work, calls for the evaluation of evidence in light of common sense and experience. Therefore, judges should, to the extent consistent with their special role, remain closely in touch with the public. Many factors, including unfair or uninformed criticism, or simple misunderstanding of the judicial role, can adversely influence public confidence in and respect for the judiciary. Another factor which is capable of undermining public respect and confidence is any conduct of judges, in and out of court demonstrating a lack of integrity. Judges should, therefore, strive to conduct themselves in a way that will sustain and contribute to public respect and confidence in their integrity, impartiality and good judgment. Federal Judges abide by the code of Conduct for United States Judges, a set of ethical principles and guidelines adopted by the Judicial Conference of The United

One of the issues facing the court system today is judges are not able to see many cases because of their administrative role. Judges spend the majority of their time “papering budgets, scheduling cases, supervising employees, and maintaining court records” (Robinson, 2009, pg. 208, para 5). The courthouse employee’s work together getting cases dispensed as quickly as possible. Some of these cases are dismissed before even being seen because of how many cases there are. Many of the minor cases are plea bargained so that the…

-I believe that it would be a great bumper sticker because wearing a seatbelt is something that is very important to do while driving. Most times people forget or simply hate wearing them because they feel uncomfortable. But a simple reminder of this would help many people avoid any disastrous situation. By wearing a seat belt a person can avoid getting a ticket. It could also lessen the force that could be applied to you if you were to have an accident while on the road. Wearing a seatbelt is something that is always found on a written test exam for getting your license. These are the reasons why I believe that a “KEEP CALM and FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT!” would be a great bumper sticker to have.…

As nurses, we encounter ethical situations everyday regarding patient care. How we handle these situations promote equality while seeking rationality. After reading the two case studies presented, I will discuss in my reflective journal how the ethical issues were presented, the steps taken in the decision-making process to ethically address the issues, the lenses used and how these lenses influenced the decisions made, and also how these can relate to the workplace. The Baird Decision Model is a five step process that guides us through that decision-making process when making ethical decisions.…

We describe here how The Cincinnati Enquirer used this data to rank the judges. Other approaches may also be valid, but a rationale should be provided. The newspaper provided ranking for each judge within each of the courts on percentage of cases appealed, percentage of cases reversed and percentage of appealed cases reversed. Those rankings were the same as the…

Political partisanship and an ever growing divide between the two major parties in the political landscape are becoming an increasingly popular topic of discussion. This partisanship continues to create more political gridlock in Congress, an increased level of animosity between the two parties, and impact other areas of political study that change American society. Another issue that has been on the minds of a lot people revolves more around Judicial Partisanship. Federal and State courts across the United States find their judges through varying manners of appointments and elections, and in many cases, these elections are partisan, which requires these judges to declare where they stand politically before they can do their job to uphold…

Judging can be described as Main, (2006) “the art or science of making discrete choices among competing courses of action” (p. 4). In order for judges to rule fairly and equitably they must have the discretion to practice any lawful route. The core of the judicial function is the right to exercise discretion. Judges have the discretion to allow certain courses of actions such as mistrials, motion to exclude, testimony of certain witnesses (whether to exclude them or not) and sentencing of the accused. A judge will make choices at their discretion with the help of different options. The judicial system puts their trust in the judges to make informed and sound judgments. A judge can be persuaded by the arguments of the court advocates. A judge is in the higher position and must see, evaluate and hear the testimony with firsthand knowledge. There are situations that a judge will not use their own discretion to make a decision but will rely solely on the testimony and there will be only a yea or nay decision (Main,…

2 items I would consider my best work on the right side of the journal is my baby dragon on page 80, and the Bikini Bottom Dihybrid crosses on page 88. I would consider the baby dragon my best work, simply because it is a decently drawn dragon which I mostly made out of my imagination. It also shows how genes can sometimes make certain organisms look odd, like my dragon with his long neck and short tail. Nonetheless, I am very proud of my dragon, Norbert II. The second item on the right side of my journal I would consider my best work is the Bikini Dihybrid cross on page 88. This is because I was very proud of how fast I was understanding the concept of Dihybrid crosses, which is a very simple subject, but I was still pleased with how fast…

The position of a manager is a foreign occupation to me. I have worked as a charge nurse for about 3 years but to be manager has always seemed overwhelming to me. I have to the opportunity to precept with Wayne Martin, who is currently the manager over the Emergency Department at Southeastern Health. He is also managing the MedCare Unit which is a critical care transport team for the hospital. To begin the morning, we started with a financial meeting with different departments such as the IT department and different business departments. The emergency department is required to go to this meeting because this is the initial part of patient care. Discussions seemed every overwhelming to me. I have never really understood the financial situation of the hospital but with the changes with Obamacare, the hospital has really taken a big hit. Conversations about cost and ways of saving and processing patients seemed to be the focus. In my opinion, the individuals involved with this meeting see patients as dollars bills and not humans. It was very dishearten to hear some of the discussions. I do understand that bills have to get paid but it was very foreign to me.…

The purpose of this paper is to summarize this week’s reading regarding nurses as educators. Today, patients are expected to assume greater responsibility for their care and health promotion. Therefore, nurses must provide patient-centered education, to ensure patients have the knowledge and confidence to take on this responsibility (Bastable, 2014).…
