Module 5: Laws and Rules of the Road

Create a car saying (Bumper Sticker) or a Road Sign (Billboard) that would describe one main point you learned in Module 5. This is an example of a bumper sticker from a former student: ““Driving the right speed is always a good deed. Enjoy your ride and don’t collide!”

1. What would yours say?
-My bumper sticker would say “KEEP CALM and FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT!”

2. How would it look?
-My bumper sticker would be noticeable but not that distracting so that it does not distract drivers while on the road. It would be yellow with black letters and in a diamond shape just like a warning sign.

3. Now, write at least one paragraph (5 sentences or more) which explains why you thought this would make a great bumper sticker or billboard, and how it summarizes the information you learned in Module Five.
-I believe that it would be a great bumper sticker because wearing a seatbelt is something that is very important to do while driving. Most times people forget or simply hate wearing them because they feel uncomfortable. But a simple reminder of this would help many people avoid any disastrous situation. By wearing a seat belt a person can avoid getting a ticket. It could also lessen the force that could be applied to you if you were to have an accident while on the road. Wearing a seatbelt is something that is always found on a written test exam for getting your license. These are the reasons why I believe that a “KEEP CALM and FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT!” would be a great bumper sticker to have.

Driving around I notice many different bumper stickers on a huge variety of cars. Bumper stickers can tell you a lot about a person whom you might not really know. For instance, band stickers can tell you what type of music the person driving might listen to. A person might stick a religious sticker on their car to openly share their spiritual faith and beliefs. There are humorous and sarcastic novelty stickers too, with slogans like, "Ex-lovers make great speed bumps."…

As I sit at a red light, a car rushes past and collides with another vehicle in the intersection. I call 911 then, after a few minutes, an ambulance pulls up on the scene. The EMT pulled a man from his car; his head a bloody mess from the impact with the windshield. They put him in the ambulance, after a bit of trouble getting him on the stretcher, and rush him to the emergency room. Later that night while watching the six o’clock news I see an interview with the police chief; he states that the man died in the hospital. However, the driver likely would have lived if he would have been wearing his seat belt. With scenes such as this, it is evident that seat belt laws should be in effect as well as enforced. Vehicle fatalities have a big impact on mortality rates and insurance premiums; therefore, enforcing seat belt laws can have a positive effect on society.…

In 2002, about five people lost their life for not putting on seat belts. People make unjustifiable excuses like; I am a good driver for not wearing seatbelts. -4 Yet sometimes you have people who are really stubborn and try to make excuses as to why they don't have to wear their seatbelt.
