On January 13th 2017, I checked out of my room at the HomeWood suits hotel a round 12am. I was waiting in my car for my 4pm check in time at the Hyatt Place. I was waiting for my phone to charge before I headed over to the hotel and I dozed off in the car. Shortly after i woke up I was then surrounded by police officers who had there guns drawn and then asked me to step out of the vehicle. They quickly searched my pockets where they said they found traces of meth residue then proceeded to handcuff me and search my car. They then told me they found heroine, meth and xanax along with klonopin. They then proceeded to question me, with questions such as what drugs would they find? why was I using the drugs? what I was doing In the parking lot?

A Missouri police officer stopped Tyler McNeely after observing it exceeding the posted speed limit and repeatedly crossing the center line. The officer noticed McNeely’s bloodshot eyes, his slurred speech, and a smell of alcohol on his breath. McNeely performed poorly on a battery of field sobriety tests, and he declined to take a Breathalyzer test. When McNeely indicated he refuse a breath sample for testing, the officer took him to a nearby hospital for blood alcohol test. The officer explained to McNeely that under Missouri’s implied consent law, refusal to submit voluntarily to the blood test would lead to an immediate one-year suspension of his driver’s license and could be used against him in any future prosecution. The testing of the blood indicated that the blood alcohol level was significantly above the legal limit. McNeely had challenged the blood test evidence claiming that there should have been a search warrant before ordering a blood sample.…

On the day of my ride-along while in the waiting room I met another person who was on a ride-along for class credit as well. After newly hour of waiting I finally met my officer. The officer that was chosen to allow me to ride-along was a female officer. Following her introduction we headed out to the Charger. I was giving a walkie-talkie with an earpiece so that I could listen to the communication from the dispatch. We entered the vehicle, buckled up and started on our way. In the cruiser the officer had logged into her laptop to check her files and looked at any updates on her calls. I was informed that my experience would vary just as much as the calls that the officers went out on from day to day. Some of my responsibilities were that I had to be self-sufficient, be able to think ahead, have the ability to know where I was and most importantly enjoy myself.…

When I first arrived, I had to fill out some paperwork. Then he took my license, made a copy and took the papers. When he finished with that, he showed me around the police station. It looked so much smaller than it really is. He showed me a few of the interrogation rooms they have. They aren’t at all how I imagined them. They are just small little rooms with nice comfy chairs and nothing else. I imagined it to be a dark room with little stools and a big table separating them, like you see in the movies. But it wasn’t at all. Then he showed me the evidence room. It was way cool. When they collect evidence they put each piece in a plastic bag after they take pictures of it and then they put it in a separate little locker and once or twice a week the police chief goes through and does the rest of the paperwork and documenting. I really liked that room. It also had the place they take blood work and test for drugs. Then he showed me a room where they take the polygraph test and fingerprints. It was full of different computers and machines. I found it very interesting because I didn’t know that police stations had all of that stuff. When he finished showing me the station we went out to his car and he explained to me all they have to do before and after every shift and arrest. They have to take out the seats and clean the floor so that if someone drops drugs they know exactly who they belong to. He also told me what all the things do in the car, but he said it would make sense if I could actually see it.…

This week I did not go into the office because I was out of the state. I had informed Joan that I would be out on the 17th and 18th. I had emailed Joan the dates a week before I left as a gentle reminder. I plan to make these hours up by going in on Tuesdays and Mondays whenever I can. Because I was not in the office, I worked from home. I spent the week calling the 3rd precinct to get a hold of the arresting officers on my cases. I left voicemails and messages, but I never got a call back. I reread my cases and read my new cases as well. I called some LP officers, who not in the days I called. I also organized my VDF’s.…
