Reflective Critique
“As important as methods may be, the most practical thing we can achieve in any kind of work is insight into what is happening inside us as we do it. The more familiar we are with our inner terrain, the more sure footed our [work] – and living- becomes.” P. J. Palmer (cited in Skovholt, T. M., 2001).
The pursuit for self-awareness or self-understanding is a chief factor of valuable reflective practice. Counsellors need not only to be conscious of their abilities, facts and presentation as professionals, but also wary of any private aspects that may mess with or obstruct their capability to supply an efficient and objective service. Counselling professionals in their everyday practice encounter unique and difficult circumstances which may be impossible to resolve by only scientific rationale approaches. Any counsellor employing the technique of reflective practice knows that this is as an approach which promotes deeper understanding and elicits critical thinking skills that spawns opportunities for further personal development. This course of Professional Development is one means of developing reflective practice, linking the internal and external worlds of the practitioner.
II. The Model of Reflective Practice:
With the preceding information in mind, I have come to realize that reflective practice can be a very beneficial process in my own professional development as an educator, because both teaching and learning processes requires special knowledge, skills and experiences. Reflective practice is a professional development process that is believed to be highly effective in achieving behavioral change. In the profession of counselling, reflective practice is referred to mindful practice in that reflective counsellors possess certain qualities; they are aware of their own strengths and inadequacies, they carry out counselling with purpose and intention, and they examine their own levels of stress and are wary of personal matters that may interfere with their

    English language learners have been the talk for many years. They are coming to America each and every day. Most of them speak different languages as Spanish, French, and some already speak English. It has been debated and voted on in five voter driven states. The states are Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Oregon. The voters have been asked to make decisions about the education of the English language learners (Mora, 2009). But only three states, California (1998), Massachusetts (2002), and Arizona (2000) passed the laws for English-only learners to be put in programs, and Colorado (2002) and Oregon (2008) rejected the initiatives of the ballot (Mora, 2009). The voters were in English only groups that were against having bilingual education for the students’ (Mora, 2009). The teachers were having a hard time in learning how to teach the English language learners. But in the 1960s, the federal and state governments have created new laws and policies that give the English language students’ the rights to a meaningful and equitable education (Mora, 2009). The government also provided funds and guidelines for a transitional bilingual education program for the English language learners to help them to become educated (Mora, 2009). In the Lau v.     In the portfolio we were told that we had to pose a problem with adult education. My instructor told us about the portfolio during the first week of class and we spent several weeks preparing for the portfolio. She helped us to develop our critical and rhetorical analysis skills which would be a big part of the portfolio, especially the use of critical analysis. When it was time to begin to write our papers, we, as a class, came up with a big long list of topics that would be good for the portfolio. We came up with topics on our own and as we said them, our instructor typed them up on a word document. I had a few different topics at the beginning but, I narrowed it down to one, which was, the student focus on grades. As I began to write my paper I realized that my topic was a little too vague. Then I changed my topic to how students tend to focus on their grades instead of learning the knowledge in a way that would benefit them. I chose this issue because it is something that has affected me when I was in high school and followed me to college. I have always been someone that school came easy until I reached the college level, because I had to learn how to learn by myself, without a teacher telling me what I need to know for the test. I used my personal experience in school as my intro, because I thought it would make my audience connect to what I had to say and give them a little bit of an understanding about my learning process. One of the hardest parts of this paper was using language that would satisfy an academic audience, because I have never really used academic language in my writings.…
