Subject title
TDA 3.4 LO 5 AC 5.1 5.2 Reflective account support children with behavioural needs
Complete a reflective account showing your own practice where you have done the following

Demonstrate ways of supporting children and young people to review their behaviour and the impact of this on others, themselves and their environment.

Include evidence of your actual practice using the past tense | When children fall out and say mean things to each other I always say to them well how would you feel about that if that’s what she said or did to you? I always get down to their level and use the appropriate body language and tone of voice. I ask them what they think they should do and I sanction them if necessary but most are just silly arguments that can be solved with an apology. If it was anything worse I would move their name and follow the behaviour policy. | Reflection | What do you think went well I think that children are developing their emotional and social behaviour and I believe this always helps them to solve arguments as they get older. | What do you think went not so well Sometimes children refuse to apologize which makes the other child feel sad, I then however use the behaviour system. s the other child feel sad, i 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 | What might you do differently in future or to improve the activity or adapt the activity and/or your practice for individual children’s needs or age-stage development My children are around the ages of 6/7 so they can play independently or in a group the arguments usually occur when there are lots of children playing a game for example football, so to prevent accusations such as cheating a teacher could define the rules and be a referee. | What have you learnt about your own practice and/or development needs I have learnt that I need to be firm and stick to the behaviour policy

Where there are areas of conflict between adults, the situation should be dealt with sensitivity and to try and resolve it as soon as possible. The longer a problem persists for, the more difficult it becomes to repair it. When a disagreement with a child occurs, it is important to not be drawn into the argument and instead, manage the situation carefully and seek out advice is necessary.…

I started my shift at 7:15 am. My work clothes are comfortable and unrestrictive; my footwear is flat, sensible and offers protection to my feet and ankles. When I arrive to the service user’s home, I knock on the door and wait to be let in either by one of the service user’s or by a work colleague. Once inside I greet the service user, if they are awake. I then head to the sleep in room, to start verbal handover with my work colleague. After the 15 minute handover, I then check and sign the handover sheet. Check the on call rota, should there be an incident or or accident. Also check the communication book and also check any money and medication, then checking the activity planner. Once the service user wakes, we say hello to each other, and chat for a short period. I encourage them to start their personal care. After, I ask them if they need any support with getting dressed and preparing breakast. The time is now 8:00 so I administrer the morning medication. I always wash my hands before handling food or medication and after assisting with any personal care. After the service user has had their breakfast. I support them with the washing up. I will then encourage the service user to clean their property. I will then support the indiviual in safely cleaning, all ares with correct products. After this I consult with the service user, about their activity plan for the day, if the service user decided to go into town. I ask them how they would prefer to travel, by bus or by personal car.…

When I started my work placement at my setting I was working with my members of staff and manager who told me how to monitor children when they eat and which child cannot eat certain food because of their religion or culture. Before I started to give out the food for the children I had to read the food policies and procedures to know how to serve the food and drink for the children. At my placement I learnt how to monitor the children when they ate and how much they ate, and also about their allergies. I had to monitor how much the children drink and I had to make sure that they drink enough water or milk.…

The first standard I have chosen to address is, ‘2.1 Be more accountable for children’s progress, attainment and outcomes’ (NCTL,2013:2), which I hope to achieve by November 2013. In order to help a child develop, we must begin by observing a child, assess their level of development and plan for them based on their interests. When observing a child we must ensure that we are recording the observations appropriately, basing them on evidence and not opinion as is stated in the Common Core competencies (CC) (CWCD,2010:10) Good observations further enable us to create a strong foundation to plan relevant activities for children. Once this has been completed, it is extremely important to reflect on what we have done. Reflection is integral to improving a child’s progress, attainment and outcomes and provides us with the opportunity to assess the results of an activity, so we can plan appropriate next steps or adapt the activity to make it more appropriate to a child’s needs and abilities. I am confident in my ability to design exciting and relevant activities for the children in my care, but have chosen to focus on improving my ability to constructively reflect on these activities, to ensure the next steps can have the best possible learning opportunities for the child. This is why I want to devise an improved planning system whereby staff can, ‘Draw upon personal experiences and other people’s perspectives, to help you reflect,…

I definitely learnt from this event that when I am going to do something like this next time, I’ll be doing this type of practise with kids who needs extra attention on one –on-one as it will be easier for me to concentrate on specific child and once he gets the full attention,I am sure he won’t be struggling that much.…

One day I was ask to transfer Mrs X from bed into wheelchair. Mrs X is paralised so to transfer her a full body hoist is needed. I had to call for help, it wouldn’t be safe to do this by myself. So while I was waiting for the other carer to arrive I have explained to Mrs X what and how we are going to do it. I have also cheked the hoist and battery if its fully charged and operational. I put right size sling on Mrs X with her cooperation. I carefully manovered hoist close to bed, then I hooked sling onto the hoist with short hooks on to of the body and long hooks on bottom. That was when my collegue arrived to help me with transfer. We asked Mrs X if she is ready when she said yes by pushing button on hoist remote I raised Mrs X up, while my collegue was holding her to stop swinging. When she was up I reversed away from bed. When I was in positionfor lowering Mrs X I have opened legs of the hoist. When my collegue manouvered wheelchair into position I was supporting Mrs X on back and knees. When a teacher, parent or guardian takes to scolding a child, student or trainee, due consideration must first be given to the subject of cause and effect. Very often, when this is overlooked and tempers begin to flair out of control, words that do more harm than good are used. “You are so stupid!”, “How dumb are you?”, “You are a fool!” are just some of the many degrading remarks that are labeled onto the victim. A child grows up learning from mistakes and sometimes these mistakes are unintentional or ignorantly done. Other times, it may just be instigated by another party. And when such a situation occurs, then the ‘scolding’ seems undeserved. No one likes to be scolded. No one likes to intentionally make a mistake as well. Very often it is due to a lack of understanding in the situation.…
