Reflection On My Norms Violation At Dd's Discount
I did my norms violation at DD’S Discount. My mom and I wearied a paper bag and we designed it as a monkey and giraffe. We shopped and we walked around for an hour. Then, we bought ninety-three dollars and ninety-eight cents of stuff. We paid with pure coins. There was only one lady in the cashier the other two lady’s took their break, so the lady was the only one there. It was us, then there was three people behind us. The cashier got frustrated because we paid in coins and then she had more people to attend. The people behind us got frustrated as well. Then, some lady was impatient and offered if she can just pay it for us, and so did my brother. We told her no and she just left her cart there and she just left. The cashier and the security

The time I have worked at Smoothie Factory last summer. I remembered on my first day, I had a duty to clean the counter shelf. As I cleaned, I mentioned that some of the protein bars on that shelf were expired. So I had a conservation with my manager and asserted him that these protein bars were expired and we could not sold them to the customers. But what surprised me the most that the manager already acknowledged these expired bars as he said it very casual. So then I said "I am pretty sure it is illegal to sell expired food, and it is just plain wrong. Aren't you going to do anything about it?" to which he said "that's why their prices are marked down" I understood that selling expired food is completely wrong and I must prevent this happen…

Working on the busiest day of the year during the Christmas period, the store had one of its two baler systems which compacted cardboard go down and wasn’t going to be fixed until after Christmas. This was a major operational impact to the warehouse and allowed stockpiles of cardboard to mount. When I came in, my store manager wanted the area clear, which I immediately reacted to the problem in setting up a manual system for colleagues to separate cardboard from plastic. This was done by simple laying…

True event: When I was a younger man back in 1973 or 74, I was out in (Royal Oak) near the (Detroit Zoo). I cannot remember the reason I went out there more than likely just joy riding, I use to do a lot of that when I was younger since the age of 18, and mostly I have driven new cars all my adult life. I saw a sign for a delicatessen that offered corn beef sandwiches among others; so I stopped, and went in to buy a sandwich. When I entered there were people already in line placing and receiving their orders and more people came in after me; you did not need to have a number for your turn to place an order. The order taker or waitress a (white female), was doing a good job of calling the correct person for their orders until my turn was up. When my turn came the order taker asked someone for their order that I felt entered after I did, but I saw not sure. Anyway after this person made their order (MY turn), wrong; she asked someone else could she help them, but what she did not know was that me and this person had short small talk while waiting our turn. Instead of stepping up to place an order, this person said; I think gentlemen is suppose next, the order taker said (oh sorry), and asked me (what do you want)! I looked at her and said not a thing from this place, and turned and walked out. As I left I could hear a few people telling her about manners and he was just another customer regardless. Oh did I mention that I was the only person of color in the delicatessen. I was not embarrassed, but angry as a (**********).…

It’s not normal for a person dressed up in a hospital gown and funny looking socks to be looking at medicine in the middle of Wal-Mart. By the way that people responded to my social norm breach, I’ve concluded that people thought it was weird and that it was definitely an odd thing for them to have seen in a popular store. I also think that people don’t know how to react in a different situation that they have never experienced before. I think this, because most of them would just stare at me clueless and stay silent. I also believe that social media plays a major role in social norms. Social media takes on its own voice in every aspect of life. If someone is breaking the social norm, they are automatically strange people and can be targeted for it. If I would’ve experienced the same thing that the people in Wal-Mart did, I wouldn’t have known what to do, only because I’ve never seen it…

Norms are generally social rules or guidelines that groups of people follow throughout life. They guide social behavior because going against any sort of norm is looked upon by other people in a manner that draws attention to the person going against the norm. In general, the attention that people receive for breaking a norm is negative and the person therefore tries to avoid breaking social norms. Norms that I have seen been broken include people walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk, as well as people wearing shorts when it’s snowing.…

For my norm violation, I decided to go out into a public place and briefly interact with complete strangers. To achieve this, I decided to simply say hi to individuals as they passed by me. In picking my location, I wanted to be somewhere with a lot of foot traffic. Ultimately, I decided to go to Fred Meyer on a Saturday, when I knew it would be busier, and start saying hi to unsuspecting shoppers. Even though this was a minor norm violation, it still made me feel very uncomfortable. Each time I went to speak I became nervous and scared people would respond to me negatively. After pushing through the awkwardness, however, and saying hello to large handful of people, I seemed to be getting a handful of the same reactions. People would either…

    Sociology 101 Social Norms

Harry Patel 9/03/2008 Sociology 101, section 8 Social Norms: Conformity and Deviance One of the norms I broke was talking to someone in a public bathroom, while peeing. It was very ocward talking to the guy next to me. One of the reason I felt ocward talking to him was because, you are not suppose to talk to the guy next to you. While you are doing your business you look at the wall in front of you. When you are done you wash your hands, and leave. No one talks to anyone they don’t know, even if they do know the person next to them they won’t talk to them while they are peeing. No one was taught to do this, you learned by observing. But when the guy next to you starts talking you don’t know how to react. That’s how the guy next to me reacted. First of all this field stimulation took place in AMC Theater bathroom, right after the movie Eagle Eye finished. My prediction before starting the field stimulation was that no one will talk to me and pretend they didn’t hear me. When I enter the bathroom there were few people in the bathroom all the urinal were full because I had to do the field stimulation I waited for one of the urinals to open up. While I was waiting for the urinals to open up I didn’t want to do the field stimulation. The reason I didn’t want to do it was because there were lots of people in the bathroom, and I didn’t want anyone to get mad at me. One of the guy finished and stepped away from the urinal washed his hand and, like what you are suppose, to do he didn’t talk to anyone. I walked over to the open urinal and started doing my business. The guy next to me was done and walked away, right when I got there. This guy in his late 20’s started using the urinal next to me. I didn’t know what to say at first. I was thinking about just saying Hi. I couldn’t get myself to say it, but finally very scared and nervous I said hi. I don’t know if he heard me or not, but he didn’t say anything. So I got even more nervous. I said it even louder hi. He gave me a…

For my norm experiment, I chewed with my mouth opened as I sat for dinner with my friends. We went to got eat at a Steakhouse, which I forgot the name of, for my friend’s twentieth birthday. I was a little hesitant at first to perform the task because personally if someone else around me did it, I would be a little disgusted. I however, decided to do it because I couldn’t think of another ‘norm’ experiment to perform. Once I ordered the food and the server came to hand it to us, I thought of a way to perform the experiment to compare the reactions of performing the ‘norm’ normally. I took a first bite and chewed with my mouth closed in the beginning. No one seemed to find it weird, everything was normal and everyone seemed fine. After what…

For my folkway violation I chose to position myself six inches away from someone during a conversation. I chose to try this particular one because I knew my mom would give me the best, honest reaction. She has always had a small pet peve that was people getting in her personal space. I thought to myself this is the perfect norm violation for me to use. I was able to easily approach my mom at home where she would be completely clueless of the stunt.…

    Breaking Social Norms

Over the passed week I was required to conduct a social experiment where I had to perform social deviance, or break socially established norms, then observe my society to see how they reacted to my “misconduct.” The experiment that I conducted was an example of informal deviance, where no one punished me and there was no risk of any punishment. It involved me riding a walled elevator (not one of those elevators that have all-glass walls) at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks multiple times, but riding it backwards, or, backwards as our current society would have it deemed. I had a friend with me that helped me monitor the reactions of eight different experiment groups and got various reactions where people confronted me about my lack of normality. This contradicted my hypothesis and proved it wrong, which was, “Even if I stand the wrong way in the elevator and go against the social norm, people will go about their business and not react outwardly.”…

The chapter explains how norms found values of behavior kept from society. Norms accept certain types of behavior. Formal norms enforce strict behavior for meeting someone of importance or what to do and don't while in public, in this case you thrown into jail is not an option, but may lead to bad character traits. I understand that norms are three categories: mores, Folkways, and taboos. Each one sets level of powers and they’re different results for each. Starting with mores that norms that see for being most needed for the safety of the overall culture, allowing severe punishments for braking mores, such as, murder or theft. A higher level of felony's as we use…
