Reading Goal Analysis
University of Phoenix Material

Reading Strategies Worksheet

Identify two reading goals, one short-term and one long-term.

• Long-term reading goal: Read Chapter 7 of “Your College Experience” by the end of the week.

• Short-term reading goal: Read the entire “Your College Experience” textbook by the end of Week 5

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

• How do you currently approach the weekly readings in the course?

I download all the material (eBooks) from the university Of Phoenix online library. Particularly the chapters that are required for the particular week. I then look over the information to get an idea of the week’s subject matter. I then research the week’s discussion questions and then read the section(s) that deal with each question. I will print out pages and highlight the important information that pertains to each of the questions, on both the printed and digital copies; this will assist with future references. All this is accomplished each and every Sunday as I work as an Active Duty Airman Tuesday to Saturday, that way I am ready for the week and class work come Monday.

Previewing allows me to see the information that will be covered in each week. I can figure out what I already know about the subject and apply that knowledge. With previewing I can determine where my weak spots will be and devote more time to that area. Marking can be accomplished on either a printed paper copy or a digital copy. With either option the information I deemed important can be used for study references. With reading with concentration; I can pick the day, time and location that best fits my reading style, to better understand the required material. Although it will be the toughest part, I believe reading with concentration will help me absorb more

Out of the ten arguments that were in Dr. Towns article I have chosen the argument about The Convicting, Convincing, and Converting Power of the Message. When we begin to look at how people come to Christ, they come to Jesus for a lot of different reasons. One of the quotes from the literature reason about the bible that I would like to include is 'The Bible has a transforming power to change the lives of individuals. We can take the Apostle Paul and look at how he was change on the road to Damascus. Paul conversion happen when he thought he was doing things in the name Christ but he was yet to be converted until he encounter Jesus on that road. It’s an interesting how Gods meets us where we are in our sin. Another quote that intrigues me was ' The Bible is unique in its call to repentance, in its convicting power to unsettle those who sin, and its power to convert and transform those who accept its message. Everyone encounter is different. When we were initially convicted yea it was emotional because we were kind of tired of the position that we were in. It was like a light bulb came on letting us know that we need God. So the transformation begins and we begin to look at ourselves as the man in the mirror that needs to change his ways, in the words of Michael Jackson. So the words that we read touch a place in our hearts to lets ourselves open up to get to know this man name…

I currently approach the reading in the course very cautiously. When reading any of the material in or out of class, I take my time. It is important to do so because by going to quick, there is a chance of missing some of the material. By reading slowly I can assure myself that I have better chance of taking in more information. Also by removing myself from any distractions, I can concentrate harder on the things that I am reading. Preparing for my reading sessions in advance helps to optimize my chance of greater concentration on my reading materials.…

Another long reading assignment to tackle this week, but I'm excited this time. GUI programming is what I'm mostly interested in. When I first started programming, I couldn't wait until I could write a program that appears on the screen and allows the user to interact with it. This has always been my idea of what programming is all about: graphical user interface programming. Although I know programming is much wider than that, GUI is what captivates me the most. As a matter of fact, I look forward to learning about creating smartphone apps and games and web development. I tried to do a little of the reading assignment each time. The author started off with an introduction that was more confusing than edifying. I noticed that the author of our textbook hasn't presented Java in the best way possible. I believe that there has to be a much…

College is like an unopened book with no title; you haven’t the slightest clue as to what’s to come, but you know you’re going to learn something new. I remember stepping into my first college class. I was filled with terror not knowing whom to expect in my class. As I walked in and looked around, I saw about twenty other people scattered about the room staring directly at me. I tried not to make eye contact with anybody, so I walked straight to an empty desk in the back and sat down. About twenty-five minutes after the professor began his lesson I had become drowsy and about to fall asleep. I tried to stay up but couldn’t resist. I awoke thirty minutes later to the ringing of the dismissal bell. The class was over, and I had felt horrible knowing nothing about what the class just learned. College can be a pretty tough place to get through, so know how to survive.…

Skim the textbook first, even though the assignment is on a set page, skim trough the chapter, look at titles, sub titles, heading, pictures, first and last paragraphs to get a general idea of the topic and as a result put you in a better place to answer the question. Take notes on what you are studying. The idea is to summarize the main idea so it's much easier to make reference to weather studying for a test or doing an assignment. Review after you've read and take notes.…
