Reaction Paper 7 Politeness
APPENDIX | Can knowing different cultures contribute peace of world | Is there any relationship between culture and language | Can second language teaching include teaching second culture | Can any problem occur during teaching culture? If it occurs what are the ways to overcome | What kinds of techniques, materials, and methods can be used in order to teach culture while teaching second language | Participant 1 | I agree with this statement. When you know different cultures, hold different political views, you learn to respect and tolerate people. Otherwise people become narrow-minded and peace breakers of the world are the ones who cannot tolerate others. | Culture and language are indissoluble. Think about Muslim countries. In their language there are words such as namaz, abdest etc. And in Western countries where technology has advanced, there are words related technologic items such as i-pod, podcast etc. This shows that countries’ cultures and their languages are interrelated. | In English literature and language courses we learned about English lifestyle, their ways of thinking, judging the things they are surrounded with. So I believe that teaching second language includes teaching second culture. | In different cultures there may be some opposite things and these may arise some transgression. A teacher should be careful about choosing tattoo topics, must be a good controller and must be neutral during discussions. | Culture related videos and movies may be shown in lessons and in speaking activities students may be wanted to talk about different kinds of behaviors they have observed. | Participant 2 | Yes, I think it helps to make a peaceful world. If we know different cultures we behave respectfully other people around world. | They are related to each other because the vocabulary we use are the things we already know. | Absolutely true, in order to learn a language we should know the culture of the country whose language we are learning. | Because

According to Diversity, 2008, as we internalize culture throughout our lives, it influences who we are, what we think, how we behave, and how we evaluate our surroundings (p. 2). Having our language and culture really changes you as a person instead of speaking and knowing the culture. It can be difficult to see our own culture, because it too familiar, too ubiquitous to recognise. Cultural assumptions are usually hidden and become more apparent when one encounters contrast. When individuals encounter foreigners, or visit other cultures, cultural differences become more apparent. Many have stated that, if it were not for the existence of more than one culture, we would not think of about culture at all! The apparent differences of how human think, feel and act are what make us aware of culture.…

It is extremely necessary for everyone in the world of different cultures to accept the other cultures and races. In America, we are a melting pot. We put millions of people of different races and cultures together and everyone is a part of that. I do not like it when people make rude and nasty comments about another race or culture. It really bothers as to why people are as ignorant and uneducated as to not accept everyone as a human being. Everybody is different but we are all the…

Our country has a wide variety of many cultures, races and ethnicities backgrounds. I have learned that each group has differences and similarities. These differences give us insight into other cultures, beliefs, and ways of life that we would not normally know. By embracing the differences through our diverse society, I have learned new concepts of living, new ways to thinking, and new ways to understand things that are different than my everyday life. Many of the groups that are so different have a common interest which is to coexist and thrive as one. It would be beneficial to our society if we would focus on the main interest of all, rather than focusing on how different we are from one another. In the past we were taught to judge based on race, cultures, and ethnicities. And now-a-days, we are taught to get to know a person before we pass judgment.…

    * The United States is a melting pot of many cultures, races and ethnicities. I have learned that each group has differences and many similarities. With these differences they have taught me to be tolerant and accepting of them. By embracing the differences through our diverse society, I have learned new concepts of living, new ways to think, and have been introduced to a variety of foods that I have enjoyed. It seems in the end many of the groups that are so different have a common interest which is to love and be happy. It would be beneficial to our society if we would focus on the main interest of all, rather than focusing on how different we are from one another. Focusing on the differences and judging others based on them is something that was done in the past upon realization that closing the opportunity to learn about other cultures was hindering me in life.…

Language plays large part of your identity as a person. Without learning how to communicate with a specific culture’s language, you’re unable to fully participate within that group. As a personal example, in China they speak Mandarin and if I had stayed there I probably would speak Mandarin too, instead of English. Some more important aspects of culture are values beliefs, and norms. Values and beliefs are directly related to one another, in the way that they are both shared assumptions cultures have.…

Culture exists in every society. It is the specific learned norms based on attitudes, values and beliefs. Culture is often based on long standing traditions that have been passed from elders to the younger generation. It can be evolved through societal and religious influences. Changing culture, though difficult, can be done through choice or imposition. When cultures are isolated they tend to stabilize and change is slow or ceases. When culture makes contact with other cultures, a type of cultural borrowing takes place and is more prominent when languages are similar. There are different cultures with many different beliefs and opinions which can cause a person or another culture to clash. This problem can results in racism, discrimination, or stereotypes.…

Every part of the world has its own culture. Culture includes the arts, traditions and customs of a country or region, as well as the wisdom, values, lifestyles and trends of the people living there. In order to build a peaceful world, we need to acknowledge and respect each other’s cultures. like Indians should respect Pakistani culture but should not follow them or adopt them because now a days we Pakistani’s are fully adopting Indians culture whether it is any wedding or a small revival we are fully getting independent and just adopting new things which are not mentioned in our religion in is that or against it. If it is like this so how can it make our better future. No culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive. But on the other hand as you know that there are some good aspects of all the cultures as we combine them together in a group and they are humanity, brotherhood, helping each other, respect, our rights, value of our decisions our ideas and all that A test of a people is how it behaves toward the old. It is easy to love children. Even tyrants and dictators make a point of being fond of children. But the affection and care for the old, the incurable, the helpless are the true gold mines of a culture. But in my country my culture on which I feel pride we all are free to celebrate our own religious festivals no matter which religion you belong to and we all belong to different religions as we pray as we dress ourselves with our religious jewelry and this plays now an important role and in the future too that now people are not realizing their culture and they are fighting among their selves but in the future I believe that there will be peace and the power of…
