The Multimodality of “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts
Multimodality uses textual, aural, and visual resources to compose messages in song, movies, TV shows, and music videos. When you begin to listen to your favorite song its makes you feel a certain way because of the beats, words, and overall tone of the song. Artists work hard on piecing together a song so that it can speak to the audience in more than one way. Some of the greatest song hits in history have underlying meaning to them that comes not only the words but also the music and instruments working together to make a certain tone. Everyone knows every single word to their favorite song so words are extremely important when producing a song. The written word of the song creates beats and rhythm within itself. The flow of words can make someone love the song even more. In “My Wish” the artist uses repetition in the chorus to produce rhythm and an overall pattern that makes the song easier to sing along to, and love. Written word is just as important to a song as the instrumental music. The words of the song give it meaning and put it into easy enough terms that the audience that is listening to it loves the song. I think when a artist is producing a song, they make it a obligation to produce something they know the public is going to love, and something that everyone can sing along to. The chorus beginning with “my wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, your dreams stay big and your worries stay small…” repeats itself four times to emphasis that they truly do care about this person even though they may not feel the same way about the artist singing. Creating this pattern makes the words stronger and more effective to those who are listening to it. Not only does the mode, actually written words, make a song successful, but other modes accompany the words into making the tone
