1) Why does Radio One want to acquire the 12 urban stations from Clear Channel Communications in the top 50 markets along with nine stations in Charlotte, NC, Augusta, GA, and Indianapolis, IN? What benefits and risks?

The Reasons for acquiring the 12 urban stations from Clear Channel could be the following:

- Bigger African American Base: It would draw more African-American listeners than any other radio broadcaster and cover more African-American households than any other media vehicle targeting the audience. Plus those 12 stations include a media company (BET Holdings) which targeted the African American population by its media “Black Entertainment Television”.

- Greater advertising revenue: This acquisition will increase the size of the company and in particular the African American base ,hence would bring greater advertising revenue since in the past the company had been successful in bringing more advertisers by convincing them about the spending power of afro American community ,thus would build a platform for the company’s planned expansion into other forms of media, including cable, recording industry, and Internet.

- It would give Radio One an opportunity to take advantage of acquiring stations in the top markets and thereby able to get a nation wide minority monopoly advantage and leveraging the fast population and the income growth among the minority which is Radio One’s primary target market.

Benefits: - Generate additional Advertising revenue as a result of large size of a particular minority group which they primarily catered.

- Better working Economies of Scale through pricing power, capacity utilization and cost reduction by programming and by controlling work from one place throughout the nation , for example centralizing of functions like Human resource management , accounting, finance , legal etc.

Risks:

- They haven’t had any large deals like the one which is offer in the case and hence

Sirius XM has attempted to establish themselves according to these five forces. In terms of threats of entry, Sirius XM has really attempted to differentiate themselves from standard radio by providing an abundant amount of channels that provides news, sports and all kinds of music. By merging Sirius and XM radios together, they have really planted themselves as the gorilla in the satellite industry, and it would be tough for another satellite company to enter and take away the customers already committed to Sirius XM. In regards to supplier power, Sirius XM has a number of different options as to what music to play, and have signed a contract with popular talk show host David Stern. To combat the high buyer power, Sirius XM has really tried to differentiate their product from other radio sources by providing a high abundance of quality listening choices that can be listened to almost anywhere. The merge of Sirius and XM really cut down the amount of buyer power out there because now if you want satellite radio, you almost have to go with Sirius XM. The merge also cuts away any direct substitutes for satellite radio, and they have tried to provide features that aren’t available on other radio types to make basic radio a further substitute for satellite radio. The last of the five forces is Rivalry, and Sirius XM has attempted to separate from the high rivalry by focus differentiation, and I will talk more about this in the coming paragraph.…

Throughout the movie Radio (James Kennedy was his real name) befriends head football coach, Coach Jones. The first time they met in the movie was when Radio brought back a football that had been kicked over the fence a day or two earlier and Coach Jones told him he would buy him a hamburger. Then Radio started hanging around more. This is also where controversy started when the players would pick on him and play mean jokes. After football Radio went on to basketball to help out and it was more of the same from particularly one person that played both basketball and football. Radio was also granted the ability to come to school as an 11th grader and later on he was able to go as long as he wanted to. The film also shows how tough it is to be mentally challenged and to lose a parent. Coach Jones caught a lot of criticism throughout the movie taking up for Radio but he stuck through and said that as he is here more and more we can learn more and more from him just as much as he can learn from us. Eventually Coach Jones steps down from being the head coach at TL Hanna High but still kept his relationship with Radio. Towards the end of the movie is really where almost all the community gets behind Radio and supports him being there and really being a blessing to the community.…

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a common, recurrent, and debilitating mood disorder which causes extreme shifts in energy and mood. The word bipolar indicates the two main polar extremes which a person with the disorder experiences. According to NIMH the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that oversees neurological and psychological research, this disorder affects about 2.3 million adults in the United States and about 1.2 percent of the population worldwide. The first signs of this disorder usually appear in adolescence and early adulthood, with cases seldom occurring in childhood. No findings have been made to indicate a difference in frequency among those of differing race or ethnicity. Bipolar disorder can sometimes be co-morbid with several other disorders, including panic disorder, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and substance dependence. This essay will discuss the underlying causes of bipolar disorder, study its symptoms and the different forms that it takes, look into its treatments and possible cures, and finally, examine its supposed link with artistic creativity.…
