Learning and Cognition

Week 1:

Individual: Learning and Cognition Paper

Prepare a 1,000 to 1,500-word paper in which you examine the concept of learning, and how it is related to cognition. In your examination, be sure to address the following questions:

What is the definition of learning? What role does behavior play in learning?

What are two different types of learning? Be sure to describe each one in your response.

What is the relationship between learning and cognition? Provide several specific examples.

Week 2:

Individual: Operant Conditioning Paper

Prepare a 1,000 to 1,500-word paper in which you examine the theory of operant conditioning. In your examination, be sure to address the following items:

Describe the theory of operant conditioning.

Compare and contrast positive and negative reinforcement.

Determine which form of reinforcement is the most effective. Explain your reasoning.

Select a scenario in which you would apply operant conditioning to shape behavior.

Create a reinforcement schedule for your selected behavior and prepare a chart in which you illustrate how you would apply your schedule to the scenario of your choice.

Week 3:

Individual: Classical Conditioning Paper

Prepare a 1,000 to 1,500-word paper in which you examine the theory of Classical Conditioning. In your examination, be sure to address the following:

Describe the theory of Classical Conditioning.

Select a scenario in which you would apply Classical Conditioning Theory (e.g., train your dog to sit, train your partner to clean the house).

Describe your selected scenario and prepare a chart in which you illustrate how you would apply Classical Conditioning Theory to

Learning and Memory Worksheet Write a 450- to 700-word essay to describe the relationship between classical and operant conditioning. Explain their elements and how they differ from one another. Additionally, provide an example for how learning can occur through each mode of conditioning. Explain how Ivan Pavlov and B.F. Skinner contributed to the study of learning and conditioning. Classical conditioning is the process of learning a new behavior through stimuli in the environment. In this process, a new behavior that was previous autonomic or unconscious can become tied to a stimulus. Classical is more of a reflex and operant is more of a response. Classical conditioning is a process that involves creating an association between a naturally existing stimulus and a previously neutral one. The elements of classical condition are neutral stimulus, unconditioned stimulus, conditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, and conditioned response. Classical conditioning is when something happens and causes you to react also known as reflex. For example Imagine a dog that salivates when it sees food. The food is the naturally occurring stimulus. If you started to ring a bell every time you presented the dog with food, an association would be formed between the food and the bell. Eventually the bell alone would come to evoke the salivating response. The elements of operant conditioning are reinforcement and punishment. What makes Classical and Operant conditioning the same is that you will get a response with both, but it may be in different ways. The difference between Classical and Operant conditioning is that classical is where you do not know whether or not you will respond to something. Operant Conditioningis a method of learning that occurs through rewards and punishments for behavior. Through operant conditioning, an association is made between a behavior and a consequence for that behavior. With Operant Conditioning, you will either get a positive or negative…

Classical conditioning is a phenomenon in which two stimuli are associated, creating a reflex response. There are three examples of classical conditioning. My first example is my boyfriend, he wears a certain type of cologne that I am used to smelling when I am around him. Now whenever I smell that scent I get happy. The cologne is a unconditioned stimulus and the reaction is a unconditioned response. Secondly, whenever I got surgery I was given pain killers after which made me sick. Even today when someone mentions pain killers or that kind of medicine I get sick. M last example for classical conditioning is my fear of flies. On television there was a show on how flies puke on everything they land on. Now whenever I am around flies I get scared and freak-out, because I don't want them on me.…

Classical conditioning occurs when we learn to link two stimuli and anticipate events. It is a type of learning that is majorly influenced by behaviorism. Behaviorism assumes that all learning occurs through interaction with the environment and the environment shapes behavior. Two critical components of classical conditioning are the unconditioned stimulus and the unconditioned response. The unconditioned stimulus is one that naturally and automatically triggers a response. The unconditioned response is the unlearned response that occurs naturally in response to the stimulus. A conditioned response is the result after an association between the USC and CS occurs. Classical conditioning…

Classical conditioning is learning by association. An abnormal behaviour can be acquired by associating an environmental stimulus (e.g. a dog) with a biological response (e.g. pain and fear when bitten) so that every time a person that has been bitten by a dog subsequently sees a dog, they…

Classical conditioning is a form of behavioral learning and was first introduced when Ivan Pavlov came upon a study when he was studying the psychology of digestion in dogs. He noticed that the dogs would not just begin salivating when the meat powder was introduced, but also when the person responsible for feeding would enter the room or heard there footsteps. Classical conditioning is when two stimuli are presented in close succession repeatedly, until the response given to one becomes associated with the other. An example of this was when Pavlov introduced the bell right before he brought the dogs food that is unconditioned stimulus, it would cause an automatic reaction or unconditioned response. The bell would be the conditioned stimulus or neutral stimulus. When paired together, the unconditional stimulus and the conditional stimulus would cause conditioned response.…
