Proverb In Finding Forrester
“Actions speak louder than words” is an old, widely known proverb. In the film Finding Forrester, Jamal Wallace performs a perfect example of this proverb when he intentionally misses two free throw shots at the State Championships. This act is directed towards the administrators and specifically towards his English professor, Robert Crawford, because he is accusing Jamal of plagiarism because he believes Jamal’s writing is too good and cannot possibly be an original. When Crawford found proof that Jamal’s writing is not completely original, he reports it to the Mailor Callow school board causing them to make a decision on Jamal’s future at the school. However, they decided to delay the decision until the end of the State Championships basketball

    Marcus Jordan is a 16 year old boy that Just moved to a new town in the middle of summer. He was on the football team at his previous school and intended to be on the one in his new school, so he practiced by himself at a park. That shows that he is very disciplined and determined (page one, paragraph three). Out of nowhere, this other figure comes in and starts practicing with Marcus. His name was Charlie, and it looked to be like he was in his mid forties. It turns out he's very good at football. Marcus had no idea who this guy was but in the text it describes Marcus having a very competitive nature (page five, paragraph two). Charlie throws the ball too high and it breaks the window of a car. Charlie ditches the crime scene. Marcus could have just as easily ditched too but decides to leave a note with his phone number so he could pay for it, which shows that he's an honest guy (page 8, paragraph 3).
