The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is an agency of the federal government created by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination by employers based on the race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age 40 or older, disability or genetic information. Labor unions and employers with 15 or more employees are covered by EEOC. The laws cover all type of work situations which include: hiring, firing, harassment, wages, and benefits. The EEOC job is to investigate discrimination charges brought by individual against an employer and try to settle the charges. If the mediation does not work, they have the authority to file a lawsuit for the individual. However, not all cases are prosecuted by the EEOC. …show more content…
