Over 240,000 College Athletes are affected by the law that prevents college athletes from getting paid (NCAA). "Everyone is making money off them except them,"(Reshke).“The United States is a sports-obsessed nation, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football and basketball contests are some of the most widely viewed, highly rated, heavily bet on, and highly profitable sporting events in the country,” (Garcia). College athletes fail to get paid, they always put their health at risk when playing, and the sport takes up extra time used for jobs. This gets in the way, and the students can’t afford to buy food, rent, etc. College athletes should get paid, some sports make incredible amounts of money off of tickets, and online programs.…
People like Joe Narcea say that college athletes should be paid. Nocera states that “without that athletic ability, many of them wouldn’t have been admitted,”(Nocera 22). College athletes are multi-billion dollar businesses. The players are bringing in millions of dollars to the universities and they aren’t getting enough recognition. While other students can go get jobs and earn money, college…
College athletes should get paid for what they do. College athletes aren’t allowed to have a job while in college. And not all college athletes get free education and those are the ones struggling to make it. College athletes bring in a lot of money so they should get some of the money.…
In college football the coaches get paid more than the professors that are teaching the future of the America and the world. On the Sports CheatSheet Website in the article 10 Reasons Sports Are America’s #1 Priority, written by Frank Carson, says “football coaches earn an average of approximately $31,000 more per year than teachers” (Frank Carson). I think this is sad because the professors are trying really hard to teach the students and it seems the coaches are…
Could you imagine if college athletes would get paid? College athletes that play sports everyday and don’t have time to get a job and do their academics. Most college athletes that play football or basketball and if they win a championship they bring millions of money back to the college. If you go to college and play sports like basketball, football you should get paid for how long you stay in college for the sports before you go pro or drop out. Because most athletes think when they get paid they can just go blow all their money but they don’t think they have to pay the school back. Therefore, college athletes should get paid. Because if the athletes get good grades and perform good they should get…
Why should college athletes be paid to participate in their sports? College athletes are awarded tuition free college due to their hard work and athletic abilities, why should they get paid extra money outside of their tuition being paid? Student athletes in college only have two jobs while they are attending, to learn and become a better and smarter athlete. These student athletes don’t need extra money outside of having their tuition, room and board, and food paid for. They are also given clothing which takes away another money based need. These student athletes are given much more than other students and yet they still believe that they should be paid for their extra work outside of their performances. The main reason is because they are already paid through their scholarships to go to school and play sports. Other reasons to this opinion is to maintain their amatuer status, difficult…
The NCAA is considered a non-profit organization by many of the people that are in charge of this business. As a non-profit organization the NCAA averages an annual profit of 6 billion dollars. The volunteers of this company are made slaves by the system. The athletes no longer scoring the game winning touchdowns are soon forgotten about. Many of these athletes going in their thirties and forties are barely able to walk, and cannot go through the day without a headache. Student athletes deserve to be compensated for risking their bodies for the NCAA, and the millions of fans watching for entertainment.…

Athletes in college may not make money from the games they play, but they don’t really need it either. They rarely have to pay tuition, they don’t pay for room and board, and they probably don’t pay for their food either. They have no need to make money off of their games because everything they need is already paid for. People say they deserve at least part of what they make, but the school uses it to better their school and facilities, so overall it’s being used for the players anyway.…
Athletes with very little time on their hands are not making money off their beloved job. Over decades, there have been athletes pouring their heart and soul into their sport that they have worked for. For years, the love of the game has gotten almost each and every elite athlete to a university where they can showcase their ability and talent. However, for the Division 1 level it is more or less a business, and your job is to bring in as much profit to your university as you can. Regardless of the business, a true athlete will play the game with a desire to win in their hearts. In recent years there has been controversial question as to which every athlete is thinking. Should student athletes who play a sport get an extra benefit by being paid because they are a college athlete?…

Any coach of a successful college football team makes somewhere between 900,000 dollars and 5 million dollars annually. These are the coach’s of the big 10, big 12, SEC, ACC and many other conferences. For our top two college football teams in Michigan alone we have some of the highest paid coach’s. Brad Hoke the coach of our Michigan wolverines made 3.25 million in 2011 and was the eighth top paid coach in college football. Mark Dantonio, coach of the Michigan state Spartans, made 1.9 million according to USA Today. This is a small portion of what the whole industry of college football will make for a single college every year. It is wrong to not pay the ones who are even making all of this entertainment possible.…
A good place to start is to make the sport scholarship a full scholarship.” (pg.3) Athletes are also prevented from making money off of their own names, which were used for jersey sales.” Supporters of paying NCAA athletes argue that large profits have permeated college sports to such an extent that it would be unthinkable to try to stop large companies from profiting from college basketball and football.” The athletes face consequences by the NCAA for doing such things as taking money off of autographs or even selling them to fans. Suspension comes into place there and eventually hurts the athlete’s. “Supporters of paying college athletes assert that players should be paid simply because their hard work makes money for other people. Boyce Watkins, a finance professor at Syracuse University in upstate New York, argues, "If what you do earns money, then you have the right to negotiate…for your share. When Tom Cruise makes a film, he gets paid quite well. He doesn't get the money because he's a nice guy, he gets paid because he is generating revenue for someone else. That's how capitalism works." Gambling is something that has caused athletes to be suspended off of the team and even kicked out of college. Gambling in Colleges is illegal and is a very serious situation that comes with consequences. “Some commentators have argued that, even if college athletes are not directly paid, they should receive a share of the…
43.3 hours a week 3.3 hours more than the average American work week. That’s how many hours the Division I athlete devotes to their sport. That is basically a job. The school makes billions of dollars from these athletes from donations, ticket sales, media rights, advertising, and anything else with a price tag. But the athletes see none of that money not even money for food, rent or just spending money. The NCAA currently produces $11 billion in annual revenue from college sports, that’s more money than the estimated total league revenue for both the NBA and the NHL. College athletes should be paid because the amount of money the colleges make off the athletes and the amount of time the athletes put into their sport.…
In my opinion, I am able to see both sides of this issue extremely well because I am a student athlete myself. Although I am not a student-athlete in the NCAA, I am a member of the University of Windsor women’s soccer team and have to balance being enrolled as a full-time student and a full-time athlete. In Canada you never see full-ride scholarships leading to a free education and I think NCAA athletes are unaware how fortunate they are to not have to worry about future debt. A quote by John Smith states, “I think we have a responsibility as student athletes. For those who are on scholarship, it’s about you appreciating the fact that you are being rewarded”. During our time competing in youth sports we are oblivious to what the future has in store for us and we are playing to have fun, learn new skills, and be with friends.…
