Pros And Cons Of AJR Belonging
Today at approximately 11:40pm in parking lot D, I, officer George, saw a few cars revving their engines and squealing tires. When I walked over to the cars I believed were involved I asked "do you know who was squealing the tires." The two males both said "they didn't know who was involved with incident." As I was about to walk away a man pulled up in a blue Honda license plate ME 225-AJR belonging to a operator who identified himself as "Cory". He was revving his engine as loud as he could to impress his friends laughing at the picnic tables. Mr. Fowler spoke to the student about how he was acting immature trying to show off after we just spoke to an individuals trying to do the same thing. Mr. Fowler promptly after asked the male student

The central issue in the case study would be the authority of the police officers to use excessive force as well as to engage in violent pursuits. Due to a previous incident of a violent pursuit ending with the death of a 14 year old teenager, the Pineville County Sheriff’s Department is currently facing a lawsuit. As such, the Department has implemented stricter rules and regulations to prevent such accidents from happening again. However, another key issue which has cropped up would be that of the behavior of Deputy Raymond Ray Ripley who has been observed to be overstepping regulations as well as engaging in activities that are not part of his…

    Ride Along

I went on my ride along on Tuesday, April 30 with the NM State Police. I rode along with senior patrolman Israel Rodriguez. I had a lot of fun and think I learned a lot about how law enforcement actually works. The officer showed that he is always thinking about the law and how he has to be very careful in what he does so that he doesn’t get god evidence suppressed in court because he makes a small mistake. He said that it’s hard enough to get evidence admitted sometimes even when you collect it lawfully. We started out by cruising I-25 until we noticed a southbound vehicle with the driver not wearing his seatbelt. We pulled him over and gave him a citation and went on. We then received a call about a hit and run coming into town from Deming so we parked out and looked for the vehicle to come by that fit the description that the dispatcher gave us. We were waiting when we received another call about suspected child abuse on a 6 month old girl. As we were driving back to the station we kept getting more interesting information about the case. It turns out that the alleged abuser is a deputy with the Sheriff’s office and LCPD had already responded to the domestic violence call and didn’t take any action against the officer. The child had been returned to the mother with red marks on her neck, legs, and back and the mother had taken pictures. Officer Rodriguez spoke with the mother and heard about the officer’s previous use of intimidation and force when they fought, but that she didn’t want to proceed with charges, just that she wanted the incident documented. Officer Rodriguez wrote up a report and we jumped back on the highway when almost immediately we were lights and sirens toward a vehicle vs. truck collision on 185. We raced over there and jumped on the scene in which the motorcyclist was very injured and they ended up calling the helicopter to airlift him to the El Paso trauma unit. After a while Officer Rodriguez…

In your view, what are the advantages and disadvantages of voluntary agreements such as the Kimberly Process and the EITI? Voluntary agreements at industry or country level are becoming very popular in the last years as a way to tackle severe issues that are affecting countries all around the Globe. Although the main scope is really deserving, I think that such organization have a limited room to make a real impact in their grounds. Such organizations are pretty visible in terms of politics: local politicians can use the argument of successfully joining certificating institutions to sustain their own political role. This may represent a strong incentive for eligible countries to actively join such organizations and make all the required steps. Such incentive may be reinforced by international pressure: in any case when the sovra‐national organizations favor the joining of such institutions, eligible countries may be spurred to take action, at least in the early phases of the process. As a second advantage, I’d mention the fact that such organizations can leverage their independency (from both politics and countries) to quickly establish a strong credibility and a strong consensus amongst their audiences (a problem that, for example, EITI was clearly facing). To maintain and further increase such credibility is another point of debate. Although the aforementioned advantages, there are several major pitfalls that impair the effectiveness of such organizations. First, they completely miss ruling enforcement systems. As independent and external institutions, they cannot go beyond the ejection from membership of countries that do not follow the set of agreed standards. There is no possibility for EITI of Kimberly Process to force a country to change its own laws or rules. They have only a moral suasion power, i.e. treating to eject countries not willing to agree with the defined standard, or at maximum refuse the membership. Unless such…

I shadowed the best officer in my community, Mr. Phil Reynolds. He showed me how the police department works as a team to prevent violation of the law. When the eight-hour shift was almost over Mr. Phil received a call from the local police department saying: “Male subject came into the bank- they weren't able to help him because he didn't have any I.D. went and plugged up all their toilets and rigged them so they keep running. The subject is in the parking lot saying that his car broke down.” (“Job shadow”). So now Mr. Phil and I had to look for this guy all around Centralia and Chehalis. It is not a local car but we are doing the best and fastest thing to find him. “He was driving a black Toyota and wearing a blue sweater and blue jeans.” (“Job shadow”). We never found him but Mr. Phil was ready for any other call or situation about this subject, after all, this chase I asked Mr. Reynolds: “What if you receive a call and you don’t understand what the situation is? I mean, what if they try to use the false information against you or any other partner?” He responded to me: “Well, I always say what I want sometimes I don’t even think before I speak but I just tell them. I am responsible for what I say. But I am not responsible for what they understand.” (“Job shadow”). A typical day for a police officer is different, harder and more dangerous than any other job. In the mornings a police officer will usually take a cup of coffee and have a normal morning but knowing that they may not come back home and have a cup of coffee the next morning. Most shifts begin with a briefing or roll call session of 10-30 minutes. Here, a supervisor will assign beats (patrol sectors) and radio call numbers, advise of any special details or assignments that might have to be covered during the shift (e.g. a high school football game is set to end at 10pm, and an officer should be in the area for traffic control), and brief…
