Professional Athletes
Many professional athletes and entertainers get paid far more than most of today's doctors and veterinarians. It makes it seem like their positions are better than a doctor's or teacher's position. It upsets many of the workers who try to insure health, education, and agriculture. It can also put low-salary workers to shame. I disagree with the athletes' and entertainers' high salary because it makes them seem more important than other professional workers, it makes them richer than other professional workers, and it makes the other important jobs and college seem worthless to aspiring athletes and entertainers. Being a professional athlete does take years of practice, but there are people who went through years of college to be in …show more content…
They can earn millions of dollars in a year, while doctors, police officers, and teachers only earn half as much. It's a nuisance for the real professionals to have to deal with. Doctors and teachers deserve more money than a football player who can score a goal from the fifty yard line, or someone who can make people laugh for a living. It can also make the more important workers feel ashamed and unimportant. Finally, it's unfair because the athlete's and entertainers look down on the important workers. They think of professional workers as nothing but people who waste their time with boring jobs. They even see college as nothing but worthless education the world could live without. They live life with their fame and fortune that they forget how important the other jobs are. They forget why education is so important to our world. I strongly disagree with the fact that professional athletes and entertainers get paid more than other important jobs. The college graduate professors spend years getting to where they are, and it's unfair for them to still not earn enough, or to be put down. It really makes those workers angry and jealous of the athlete's and entertainers. If they don't do anything to help the economy, or help the world in general, they shouldn't earn more than those who do. They get to live life in riches galore while those who try

Why should college athletes be paid to participate in their sports? College athletes are awarded tuition free college due to their hard work and athletic abilities, why should they get paid extra money outside of their tuition being paid? Student athletes in college only have two jobs while they are attending, to learn and become a better and smarter athlete. These student athletes don’t need extra money outside of having their tuition, room and board, and food paid for. They are also given clothing which takes away another money based need. These student athletes are given much more than other students and yet they still believe that they should be paid for their extra work outside of their performances. The main reason is because they are already paid through their scholarships to go to school and play sports. Other reasons to this opinion is to maintain their amatuer status, difficult…

According to Kurt Badenhausen, in the article “World’s Highest-Paid Athletes,” the top one hundred paid athletes collectively earned two point seventy-five billion dollars in last year which is up five percent from last year (1). This is concerning because the future of our country is not based on how well an athlete plays a game. Teachers should make more money if athletes are going to continue to be paid substantial amounts of money. The future of children are impacted by teachers and these children are the future of the world. If teachers continue to get paid less before long the world could see some horrific teachers. This is due to the fact that schools will start to hire anyone because people don’t want to be teachers anymore because they can’t make a living off of teaching. Also police officers, fire-fighters and military workers are protecting the United States by sacrificing their lives. Yet, these brave men and women only make a fraction of what professional athletes do. Doctors are the ones that help these athletes when they get injured and they still don’t make as much as professional athletes. This is a growing concern in the world…

Another reason is the fact that athletes develop massive egos. As said in the article “Do professional athletes get paid too much” Hjelm says that “During the NBA lockout of 1998-99 players were crying poverty (Hjelm 11).” Hjelm also said “Kenny Anderson, then a guard for the Boston Celtics, complained of not being able to afford insurance on his eight cars (Hjelm 12).” This proves that athletes become whiny little brats when they get these huge paychecks. It has to stop.…

This happens for the fact that, again, the people in this country tend to care about having fun rather than anything else. Another reason as to why the amount of money that athletes receive is ludicrous is that, “...retired athletes can go on to have lucrative jobs,” (Edelman 24). Being involved in lucrative jobs means always making tons of money, and more than almost everyone else. “...there are plenty of people who have difficult and dangerous jobs, and no one is handing them exorbitant amounts of money,” (Edelman 24). As to why people do not pay people who work strenuously becomes lost upon the vast majority of people, but I believe that it is for the fact that no one actually cares about them. All in all, the fact that people who gallop around all day, and still acquire millions of dollars, is a truly disturbing truth that burdens us…

Well...Well...Well...Look at what we have here. Many students some who may want to become college athletes. But guess what? You are not going to get paid. Why is it that determined college athletes do not get paid, while other people with a job do? College athletes wake up everyday, to work day and night, practicing the sport they specialize in. I'm positive these athletes dedicate nearly all of their work and time for this sport, however do not get rewarded for it. Similar to when you work for your ignorant manager, yet they keep the money for themselves and do not pay you. This exemplifies how college athletes feel when they lay foot on to the court, the field, or the ice. This is not fair, and college athletes must be paid because they work with determination comparable to professional athletes, maybe even to a greater extent, since they also have to balance their school schedule. As a result, college athletes deserve to be paid for all the effort…

Pursuing and completing a college education is a huge reason why many people feel athletes under the age of 21 shouldn’t be eligible to play professional sports. Having a college degree can be extremely useful because of the amount of opportunities and options available to graduates. However, as much as attending college is encouraged in today’s society, college isn’t a route everyone chooses. “In 2011, the most recent year for which statistics are available, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 68.3 percent of students who graduated high school in 2011 were enrolled in college.” (Thompson) The choice to attend college or not attend college is a choice that comes across of the path of many. Why should athletes be held to a different standard of education?…
