Process of deciding to become a physical therapist (personal statement)
My process of becoming a physical therapist begins in the summer season when a school mate convinced me to volunteer at the UCSF Medical Center. During my community involvement, I find it very satisfying to interact with the patient and accompanying to their needs. The majority of the staff was friendly and optimistic to the patient. They were very respectful; smiling and acknowledging to all individuals. The most influential moment I ever had is witnessing how synchronize and coherent from the different medical caregivers were when assisting and cooperating with the patient. Volunteering at the hospital gave me a better idea the true value of team work which got me interested in the health field. My contribution at the UCSF Medical Center was so fulfilling, I have decided to continue with it throughout my high school years. While I was pursuing my education and gaining firsthand experience, I was also an active individual that enjoys playing sports and participating outdoor activities which inspire me even more to get involve into the health field. Therefore, when I graduated from high school and began my college education, I decided to major in Kinesiology to study more about the human performance and as well understand the aspect of body movement. Through this college journey, a classmate introduce me to a job opening at a private practice physical therapy clinic called B.E.S.T. (Back Education Sport Therapy) Physical Therapy which I was fortunate enough to be employed as a physical therapy aide.
Working at B.E.S.T. as a physical therapy aide had taught me how important it is to demonstrate my unique character to communicate and to establish an interpersonal relationship with the patients. By acquiring this skill, I was able to develop a friendly and an adequate environment during the rehabilitation process and as well to help enhance the outcome of the therapy treatment for the patient.
