There are many factors that need to be taken into account when assessing development of a child or young person as they are all individuals and so must be assessed with these individualisms taken into account. All children and young people develop at different rates and stages and reach specific markers at different times in their lives. When professionally assessed, the young person will be assessed against a nationally recognised level and compared against these to assess their progress.…

In this manner, Robin Mejia, author of “How Texting Changes the Way Kids Communicate” explains how the pros out outweigh the cons in the way kids communicate using technology. Mejia goes on to explain that it is safer in today’s society because kids spend most of their time online talking to their friends in real life opposed to a potential predator. She also writes about how the technology today lets the parents themselves communicate easier with their kids while they carry their busy work schedule. Lastly, she believes that the kids are able to sustain friendships better and that a lot of the communicating is positive between the kids and their peers. Technology is positive for the younger generation, because it helps stay in touch with friends,…

Communication is known to many as the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thought, message, information, speech, visual, signal, writing, or behavior. It is also a significant exchange of information between two people or a group of individuals. With the growing use of technology, communication now occurs at a rate of high speed in a way that many people applaud and is being used in many different forums that would have been unheard off 5 to 10 years ago. When reading, Twitter Goes To College, (Miners, 2009); I believe the message being expressed is that in today’s generation social networks, media devices, and use of the internet are all types of “today” communication technology which plays a huge positive role in education.…

As I embarked into this higher education path I wanted nothing more than to be an administrator of an Elementary or Middle School in Texas. I was able to even envision myself in the school district I currently work in working in school administration at one of the schools I have taught at. I was fortunate on my internship year to have the position of being the instructional technology facilitator and was able to help more in depth with the administrators of my campus and learn the in and outs of the administration side of the school. Looking at all of this and having experienced it I am now thinking I am leaning towards more working towards becoming a department head or maybe the head of a academic department for the district. I am hoping the first step to this will be to become the department head for fifth grade on my campus and then moving towards becoming the English Language Arts and Reading department head. Eventually over time I hope to move into a more Reading Specialist position for a campus or even possibly a district. My ultimate goal is to move into the administration building and become a curriculum director for a district.…

Fifty years ago, a family would get together after a long day, eat dinner at the dinner table, and share the details of the events of their day. Families were connected with each other on a personal level and enjoyed each other’s company. Nowadays, it seems as though children and teenagers are too preoccupied with their cellphones, computers, and tablets to even carry on a decent and well thought out conversation with their other family members. Internet usage and electronics such as laptops and iPad’s have negatively affected the way children and their families interact with one another in a major way. In Adam Gopniks article “The Information,” Gopnik very briefly discusses how family life can be torn apart by cellphones and computers from the Better-Never’s view point. In William Powers’ book Hamlets Blackberry, Powers recounts stories about family problems relating to technology. Additionally, an article by Sook-Jung Lee and Young-Gil Chae called “Children’s Internet Use in a Family Context: Influence on Family Relationships and Parental Mediation” discusses a survey conducted on whether children’s use of The Internet affects their communication abilities with their families. In the debate over whether The Internet affects family relationships in a negative way, it is arguable that the most important thing to do is to monitor the websites visited by children to and limit the time spent using electronics by children and adolescents.…

I have my own views about becoming the Principal of my school. I feel that the principal of the school should also be elected from the students. When we live in a democracy, why should we deny this right to the students? There should be a Students’ Council elected by the students themselves. Every class should send its own representative. These class representatives should form a Parliament. The Principal should be made responsible to them. The students are never consulted in the appointment of the teachers. I shall ask a candidate to teach the class only if the students would. Only those teachers, who can satisfy the students, would be selected.…
