Princesses In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Growing up, I was surrounded by the idea of princesses. When reading their fairytales, one thing was always the same for each one; every princess had a prince. Now, I’ m not saying that having a companion that loves you is bad, but these stories drilled it into the heads of young children that girls need a guy. Even in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, written about four hundred years ago, the same theme of dependence on a man is hidden between the pages. Juliet is no exception. Now more than ever, we need to be promoting women who are strong and independent, while providing the following generations with the same confidence.
