Prejudice Vs Individual Prejudice
Marian Anderson once said, “Prejudice is like a hair across your cheek. You can't see it, you can't find it with your fingers, but you keep brushing at it because the feel of it is irritating.” The denotation of prejudice is “the preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.” Just like hair, prejudice grows and grows inside one’s soul and mind. The mind is taught how to make judgment before having the facts on an idea or before knowing a person. Prejudice can come in many forms, some more common than others. For example, a few of the most common types of prejudice happens to be colorism, racism, and sexism. More often than not, the word “prejudice” leaves a foul taste in the mouth of the user, even though everyone has their own prejudices, whether they would like to admit that or not. Prejudice thoughts and actions can affect everyday life through interactions and attractions, causing lifelong scars that never seem to fade.
