ABSTRACT
Rural Electric Cooperatives provide power to more than 42 million customers in rural communities across America, making them an integral part of the electric utility industry. As demand for electricity continues to grow at a rapid pace, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the infrastructure needed to meet that demand. Power loss due to inefficiency of distribution lines has been a major concern for many electric utilities, especially for Rural Electric Cooperatives, because a great deal of energy is lost traveling long distances between customers in rural areas. Modern technology may provide long term solutions to improve power line efficiency. The purpose of this research is to determine the most cost-effective and feasible technologies available that can, theoretically, be implemented into a grid system to improve efficiency and reduce

Recently, there is being a vast growth and a rising interest in exploiting the power grid to provide broadband Internet access to residential customers, offices and industries. The most astonishing aspect of this idea is the presence of infrastructure that is in place for power distribution, and the rise of multimedia services over it could be much more valued than any existing wired alternative. For example, if we try to rebuild the whole transmission system using optical fiber instead of cabling it would cost a great deal and would be irrelevant, whereas providing access to the Internet by using the existing cable lines is more beneficial.…

Electricity bills are going to increase by as much as 42 per cent over the next three years simply because we’re investing too much in new and expanded electricity networks. If the network companies invest just 10 per cent of this planned spending in energy efficiency they could reduce the need for new infrastructure, reducing energy consumers’ bills.…

Consumers have been suffering from crises in form of load shedding for hours in a day no immediate solution seems to be viable in extended summers. They tend to blame government and utility companies for not reducing load shedding. Energy could be made available for extended hours but a mass level awareness about efficient usage of energy is required. Illegal connections, usage of inefficient and unnecessary appliances at peak demand time has worsened the situation and utility companies seem helpless about it. They are not left with any other option to reduce demand except through load shedding.…
