Since a very young age, I have wanted to live in California on the beach. If it were that easy, I would already be there. I dream about myself in Calefornia on the beach with a nice house and plenty of money. I feel the harder I work, the closer I get to moving where I want. California is quite an expensive place to live. if I could just get up and go, I would. First I have to go to collge, graduate, pay off my car and student loans, and accomplish some more

I am one of many students who come from small-town U.S.A. with huge aspirations. I have a great desire to depart from my home in order to pursue my dreams. My passion is to become a script/screenwriter for film companies that include; Walt Disney and Pixar Studios. These aspirations came from a small town I call home. Growing up in a small town is not difficult but it can be irritating. When I was younger I believed that my town was a dreadful prison and desired to escape its repulsive grip that it held on me. This town presented itself with nothing except for a Wal-mart and a few fast food restaurants and the nearest mall was thirty minutes away in another state. And as I advanced in years, I continued to believe that all this town…

The California dream changes drastically depending on your level of income. As we see in the majority of Luis J. Rodriguez’s stories, opportunity and success is what lower class families are focused on. “Pigeons” is about a young, poor couple who are doing whatever it takes to support their family. “Although apprentices were called oil greasers...it was a job that promised up to 15 dollars an hour within two years...What more could a young, poor, married couple living in East L.A. ask for?” (109). For a typical poor couple like that, jobs like these are very common. For them, the California dream is being able to support a family and live happily. While this can be thought of as a dream, it is what is expected everywhere and is not unique to California in any way. If you compare this definition to Rawls’ definition, it is nowhere near the full California dream. In fact, it is only one fifth of it, which doesn't really make it a dream. In contrast, the California dream…

California is a prosperous land with beautiful nature, and last but not least, a land of opportunities. The California Dream consists of a big house with a beautiful backyard surrounded by a pictural landscape, sunny beaches and great acquaintances. But further than esthetics, Californian Dream prevails fast wealth and fame. California is perceived as a place of new beginnings where “working hard and playing hard” becomes a great moto. As once the historian W.Brands stated, “[...], California is the new dream of instant wealth, won in a twinkling by audacity and good luck.” California became an attraction to immigrants from within the State as well as all over the world with a dream of each family having their private home and making a fortune.…

USC Trojans fans, Christians, and Republicans or pageant moms all have one thing in common, according to an article written by Walker Percy called “Short Quiz.” Percy writes that there are different subcategories of consciousness of self that play a role in how people act and live. The cosmological self, the Christian self, and the diverted self are one of the many subcategories Percy goes on to explain in his article, and that are very common in U.S. contemporary culture.…

Everyone has a dream that they should work for to make them happy. That dream only comes true once someone puts in hard work and extraneous amounts of effort to achieve it. Once they achieve their dream, they start a new one. For many people my age, the dream may be college, a career path, or accomplishing something in the future they always have wanted to do. My dream is to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and be a member of the marching band. I know that not only will I have to work hard academically, I will have to practice my marching and always keep a positive attitude, even when the pressure is heavy to do well. The things I must always remember are to give my best, dream big, and “Full speed ahead, Don't give up the…

Not many people around the world have this opportunity, so I’m going to take it and run with it. With the education I get from California I plan on being a Registered Nurse. This state has so many programs for this career and it’s just a matter of choosing which one I want. When most people think of California they think of Hollywood or sunshine all day and surfing, when in reality California is just like any other state. Yes, we do have our beaches and of course Hollywood stars, but if you look past all of that you see that we do have things just like everyone else. Such as Great food, Beautiful coast lines and beautiful people. One of my friends who lived in Utah told me that she has always wanted to come to California and visit. She never once thought it would be all movie stars and such. She said “It is actually more laid back then Utah is.” “Utah is more conservative, not at all as laid back as California”. She said she enjoyed it here, especially the nice weather. She also said that Utah had many opportunities but she said that California had more opportunities for the education she wanted to pursue. Other than Utah I think that most other states don’t like California much. I’m not exactly sure why but maybe it’s because they think we’re just lazy and surf all day. But that’s not all we do; some people do work for a living and work hard for what they have just like everyone…

Not too long ago, the dream to me was being successful, which means having money. I figured, in order to be successful, money and wealth were not only necessary, but the primary factor. That isn’t too far from society’s classic version, which relies on money for each step of the path; school, a house, kids, etc. As I grew however, so did my view on the American Dream. My own version has become more realistic as I have become not only more knowledgeable about what I truly need, but also about what I truly want and what could make me happy. Although money and having financial success is helpful in creating a comfortable life without having to worry about debt, living a healthy and fulfilled life should be all that matters to one’s dream, not materialistic things like houses and…
