Just as the sun began to flirt with the horizon, I broke through the doors of Dunham Hall and sifted between small masses of people to claim my ticket. After the fact, my eyes bounced around the auditorium and finally tagged the perfect seat. Shortly after planting myself at an optimal distance from the stage, the theater slowly began to fill with murmurs of proud parents and blue hairs, who all waited to obnoxiously cheer for their children and grandchildren performers. I hovered the pencil above my notebook in anticipation for the first performance. Once the director struck up the band, I began to spill my thoughts onto paper in hurried fluidity to grasp the nuances between the seven movements of Little Threepenny Music. This piece was composed…

David McCullough uses very good examples in this speech. McCullough points out that marriage can be taken away and never thought of again, but your high school diploma will carry on with you forever. Regardless of what you do from here on out, you will always be a high school graduate. McCullough says, “From this day forward truly in sickness and in health, through financial fiascos, through midlife crises, through diminishing tolerance for annoyingness, through every difference, irreconcilable and otherwise, you will stay forever graduated from high school, you and your diplomas as one, ‘til death do you part”. Your diploma will show for that every day. Graduation is a special moment. Your class is united as one receiving the same award and dressed the same. The only thing different is your name. McCullough says that every person is not special but is different in his or her own way.…

The tune sounds triumph, bringing this piece to life. Listening to this piece reminds me of my high school graduation and also, when I graduauted for Surgical Technology school at a two- year college; lots of memories. I played the flute in band from the time I was in the 4th grade until entering high school and I finally decided to leave the band. We played this song for important special occasions. The tune had an underlying quality of nostalgia, making it perfectly suited to a commencement that marks the beginning of one stage of life, but to the end of another. When you are getting ready to walk across the stage to receive you diploma or degree, this music piece alone brings tears to your eyes of achievement; you have made it to the finish line.…

When I was sitting with my classmates during graduating we were showing the pride and the symbol of Manhattan High School as becoming alumni of Manhattan High School. For the past four years, we showed our pride of the school in all that we did here in the school. Showing the pride makes you very happy to be an Indian and that will last forever in our hearts. When you are alumni you can be a part of a lot of things that the high puts on like the Serenade Concert that you can sing with all the other choirs that are at the high school and eighth graders that know the songs too. Being alumni is something to be proud of and something that you have accomplished in your four years of high…

The graduation ceremony also signifies the release of the adolescence in to adulthood in out into the real world. Before graduation, most children live at home with family or guardian. Their sole responsibility is to remain in school, achieve passable grades, and in most cases prepare for college. Food, clothing and shelter is provided by the adult in the home usually with little to no help financially from the child. Once a child achieved their diploma and graduated from high school, expectations of that child increase.…

The first component of McDonaldization that also applies to graduation speeches is predictability. Pretty much all graduation speeches, whether given by a graduate, principal, superintendent, dean, etc. start out with a quote from some famous person. After the quote, the speaker will almost definitely go on to talk about one of the following. Here I have composed a list of probably every possible topic to speak about when addressing a graduating class.…

We all found out about this decision the day of the ceremony, and as much as I was upset about it, I didn’t really make a big deal out of this censorship, in one hand, because I understood (this was a religious school, the group graduating was one of the most problematic groups in the school’s history, and I was one of the most problematic students in their history too. So I absolutely understood and predicted some hostility from their side), and on the other hand, it’s not like I was dying to be on stage, I actually really did not want to, but was somehow pressured by my senior friends to do this, since it was a nice farewell tradition.…
