Polygamy Culture
Polygamy Culture:
Polygamy is a heterosexual marriage which includes more than two partners, which is a monogamous marriage. When a man is married to more than one wife at the one time, the relationship is called polygyny, and there is no marriage bond between the wives; and when a woman is married to more than one husband at the one time, it is called polyandry, and there is no marrige bond between the husbands. If a marriage includes multiple husbands and wives, it can be called group marriage. Though there are three or more parties to such marriages, sexual activities between the parties are normally only heterosexual.
The term is used in related ways in social anthropology, sociobiology, sociology, as well as in popular speech. In social anthropology, polygamy is the practice of a person's making him/herself available for two or more spouses to mate with. In contrast, monogamy is a marriage consisting of only two parties. Like monogamy, the term is often used in a de facto sense, applying regardless of whether the relationships are recognized by the state (see marriage for a discussion on the extent to which states can and do recognize potentially and actually polygamous forms as valid). In sociobiology, and zoology polygamy is used in a broad sense to mean any form of multiple mating.

Forms of Polygamy
Polyandry
Polyandry is a practice where a woman has more than one husband at the same time. Fraternal polyandry was traditionally practised among nomadic Tibetans in Nepal, parts of China and part of northern India, in which two or more brothers are married to the same wife, with her having equal sexual access to them. Polyandry is believed to be more likely in societies with scarce environmental resources, as it is believed to limit human population growth and enhance child survival. It is a rare form of marriage that exists not only among poor families, but also the elite.

In time, with both the influence of technology and a more culturally-accepting generation, this number will only begin to climb. Polyamory is a natural and healthy part of committed relationships. Monogamish relationships are all about finding the best situation for both you and your partner to have your emotional and physical needs fulfilled , and the definition of monogamish may vary from couple to couple. The rapper Pitbull summed it up best “People are stuck on what’s normal, what’s right, what’s wrong. Maybe what’s right to you is wrong to me...What count’s at the end of the day is everybody being happy”…

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. According to Philip Roberts in the book Mormonism Unmasked, “ Jesus Christ is the central figure in their theology and daily living” (65). He says that, “also, there is no question that Mormons affirm the historical validity of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. They often refer to Jesus as their savior, as their Lord, as the son of God, even as God incarnate as man” (Roberts 65).…

In the article, “A Humanist Looks at Polymory”, Valerie White creates a strong argument on the topic of Polymory (believing it is possible to love more than one person at a time without deception or betrayal) . White uses numerous amounts of examples of what Polymory is, and why people would be against it, and then why people are wrong to assume certain things about the group. She uses personal experiences, backs up her statements with strong facts, and gives more insight on the true meaning of Polymory.…

In this essay I will argue the point that polygamy will not work in the Australian society in which we live today. ‘Polygamy is not merely an exotic habit of a few faraway people. A wide range of very different societies allow a man to be married to more that one wife simultaneously and is even today a viable form of marriage in large parts of the world’. (Bretschneider 1995 p.11) I will support my argument based on the reasons some of these cultures practice polygamy and why in Australia there is no need for this type of marriage. There are many theories to explain the development of polygamy within cultures, I will examine several of these reasons and compare them to the Australian society of today.…

We know in our society today there are many different types of families. They range from nuclear families which consist of a mother, father, and children to blended families which consist of two families coming together following a divorce. For the sole purpose of this essay, however, we will be looking into a type a family which is different than most of the others; which is called Polygamy. Polygamy is defined as “The practice or Custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time” (Oxford Dictionary). The term polygamy acts as an umbrella term for the simple reason there are different types of this practice. The most common practice of polygamy and the one this essay will be looking into specifically is called polygyny which…

    Polyamory

Polyamory “from the root words Poly meaning many and Amour meaning love hence "many loves”." In other words people who love more than one person at a time but not only love but claim to be in love with all these people. And I feel like loving someone and being in love are two different things. Polyamory is said to be the “non-possessive, honest, responsible and ethical philosophy and practice of loving multiple people simultaneously.” (Polyamory Society) Not to be mistaken with swinging or what is “also known as wife swapping or partner swapping. It is also a non-monogamous behavior, in which partners in a committed relationship engage in sexual activities with others as a recreational or social activity.” People who participate in the lifestyle of polyamory live by a lot of rules. The rules vary but some are about whom will be allowed within the relationship, how people will conduct themselves within those relationships, and who will or won’t use protection with what partners. It is said that if you’re a cheater this lifestyle isn’t for you but I believe it’s just the opposite. Please do not get me wrong, I am not trying to knock anyone for their lifestyle but this seems more pleasure oriented than an emotional attachment. It’s supposed to leave room for you to explore different loves and not to close yourself off from loving or being loved in return. But I also think it does just that. It doesn’t give you the ability to fully love someone. As I stated earlier loving someone and being in love are two totally different things. I believe just like you can’t you can’t be “in” two places at once, you can’t be “in” love with more than one person at a time either. It’s hard to be happy and angry at the same time, same principle with being in love. It’s an emotional state that requires your full emotional attention. Sure you can love more than one person but again that’s not the same thing as being in love. I believe that what a lot of these people are…

    Monogamy vs Polygamy

In many households around the world marriages are failing because of society beliefs on monogamy while polygamists are carrying on successful relationships. Although monogamy is a healthy practice it seems that it may not be (what society considers right) right for everyone. A young couple recently shared their story with an article. They were only 28 years old and had already been married for ten years and their marriage was on the brink of disaster because they had become bored with each other. Instead of stepping outside of the relationship in secrecy they discuss participating as swingers and made the agreement to experience it together. They both agreed that it was the best thing that they could have done to save their marriage. Relationships are a part of everybody lives but monogamy may not be. More and more people are leaning towards the ideal of polygamy in hopes of a better chance at saving their relationships/marriages and living happier honest lives. In the near future polygamy may be accepted as “the norm” as more people began to experience this lifestyle change. It is possible that therapist may even begin to suggest this to their patients as a remedy in savings marriages. However, polygamy is still a very controversial subject especially among married couples, religious groups, and society in general. Accordingly, this paper will examine the meaning of monogamy to society, the reason why some people believe that monogamy is the only way to be successful in relationships while others encourage polygamy, and the reason issues arise within marriages that makes a spouse feel as if they need to step outside of the marriage. Because over 70% percent of marriages fail due to infidelity being monogamist may not be the key to success, talking to polygamist could prove very helpful for many. Ultimately, society must be able to stay open-minded to even being to accept the thought of polygamy as a…
