Poem Analysis: A Dulcet Conscious Thing
For, “A Dulcet Conscious Thing,” I didn’t change too much when it came to the content. A general issue in my workshop was that the meaning of the poem was ambiguous, some found this a strength while others found this a weakness. From what everyone gathered, the poem is about Mother Nature, which isn’t too far off, but it’s not the meaning I associate with it. In this poem, I spoke on the exploitation of women, primary black women, through the metaphor of Mother Nature. I feel that I shouldn’t flesh out the subject matter because a part of it is getting through and some of its effect, the discussion of sex and gender and how it can coincide with race, it reaching the readers. Another that was a general consensus was the structure and the length
