Platoon Commander Duties
1. Company Commander
I am ready to step up and have a larger role in the operation of this unit. I am confident that I can enforce the standards in discipline, academics, fitness, and overall military bearing. As Company Commander I would play an active role in training and other leadership development. In addition, I have experience planning events and will work tirelessly to ensure any event I am in charge of is the best yet.

2. Platoon Commander I have served as Squad Leader for one semester, and I feel that I am ready for the greater responsibility of Platoon Commander. As a Platoon Commander, I will ensure standards are being upheld and my platoon is well informed. I will also establish a solid work relationship with my Platoon Sergeant/LCPO so that our platoon is firing on all cylinders. With more responsibility, I will further my leadership skills and make a larger contribution to the unit.

War is devastating to the soldiers fighting in it, and they react in ways that seem abstract and foreign. Tim O’Brien’s short story “The Things They Carried” details the struggles of a platoon that represents the entire U.S. Army throughout the war effort in Vietnam. O’Brien writes about of the strange tactics of the people within First Lieutant Cross’ Platoon; whether it is bad leadership, drug use or the struggles of being Native American within Vietnam. Military leadership isn’t simply about leading a group of individuals to accomplish the mission. On the surface it may seem this way; a barrage of loud, authoritative orders being barked out to brainwashed enlistees. This is how the preponderance of the masses that aren’t associated with the military may see us. However, it’s much, much more than that. Military leadership is about leading individuals to become something more than they ever thought they could be. To develop an individual into one of integrity and excellence. To help them reach goals they never thought possible and to consider a world beyond their own. Truly, there is no other form of leadership quite like it.…
