Plastic Surgeon Research Paper
Teenagers have an abundant amount of choices when selecting an occupation for their future. Choosing a career is no easy task for anybody. The profession I want to become when I’m an adult is a plastic surgeon. I chose this profession because I like to help others, but to achieve my goal I will have to obtain an extensive amount of knowledge. There also are positives and negatives to this profession.
I chose this profession for multiple reasons: money, happiness, and status. Everybody has insecurities that make them uncomfortable. It would be my job to help them alleviate their stress about themselves. I would feel satisfied with myself knowing that I helped somebody feel better about themselves. That's eight years. Upon completion of medical school, aspiring plastic surgeons would need to enter in surgical residency, which is about five to six additional years. That's essentially a decade and a half of schooling and training to prepare for this profession. That is 13 to 14 years before becoming fully certified. This is a gruesome profession to get into because it takes extreme dedication and commitment. Choosing this career was not an overnight decision. I am still pondering if I truly want to commit, but I still have plenty of time left to decide.
There are some positives and negatives dealing with this profession. The drawbacks for this profession are the extended amount of education. A procedural mishap might occur while working on a patient. Aspiring plastic surgeons can incur debt. Job satisfaction for this profession can vary from person to person. The job satisfaction percentage of this occupation is 45 percent as of 2012 (Greenwood). The positives for this profession are that there is a steady source of income.
