Pied Beuaty
“Pied Beauty” points to Gerard Manley Hopkins’ power of sensuous appreciation of the beauty of the things around, his poetic concentration, compassion and above all, his unquestioning faith in God.

All nature is good; “Because the Holy Ghost over the bent World broods with worm breast and with oh! Bright wings”.

He believes that the created beauty is the reflections of God’s spirit, and the beauty of nature is constantly reborn and renewed through the brooding of the Holy Ghost over the bent world. The world has been twisted and bent by men. Nature has been polluted and violated by man’s industrial activities. Yet the beauty of nature is never exhausted because; “The world is charged with the grandeur of God. It will flame out, like shining from shook foil; It gather to a greatness, like the ooze of oil crushed”.
God is in and over nature like the dove brooding over its young ones with protecting care and affection. The Christian concept of God as love and protector is vividly expressed in the last two lines; “He fathers forth whose beauty is past change: Praise him”.

The very expression “Pied Beauty” means multi-coloured beauty of things. The multi-coloured beauty of things with their ever changing (shifting) colour and forms is very much pleasing to the poet. But the realization that they all are the manifestations of the beauty and grace of the supreme creator fills his heart with wonder and admiration.

The realization that each and every ordinary object of the world of nature has on it the touch of a magic hand of the supreme artist includes one to worship, sing the glory and grace God. The sky of couple colour brings the association spotted cows. The trouts that swim have on them rose-spot on dots beautifully distributed. The chest nuts that falling from the trees is bright

I would like to focus on the relationship between God, human being and nature and also try to explain the figure of God as Annie Dillard sees it and find a biblical reference in her writing which would be an example of God’s almightiness. Also, there is a conflict between Annie Dillard’s illusion of God, since her thoughts are not united in this topic and reader could get easily confused, whether she is devout or skeptical about God. In the next paragraph I would like to focus on Dillard’s use of the words God and god.…

This direct worship of the trees serves to highlight the connection that Muir and by extension, mankind, has to god through religion and worship. When you think of nature, you tend to see it as God’s own form of art. From the blossoming of flowers to the misty cast of rain, its can all be seen as a symbolic view of God’s creation. Much like how people are seen. Zora Neale Hurston’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God” gives off the beauty of nature within Janie as her life. On a journey to find the depth of affection that she never had, she blossoms and becomes aware of love’s true colors.…

While writing this book, I escaped to St. Scholastica Priory in Petersham, Massachusetts, for peace, inspiration, and focus. The volleyed chanting of the monks and sisters during the services eased my mind to a gentle place of introspection. Under the angelic voice of Sister Mary Frances, I recalled the moments where I have felt closest to God. Without exception, these moments coalesce in a beautiful spot in nature. One happened, on a run in a cemetery near Hartford, Connecticut, where I attended Trinity College. The sun filtered through the trees?leaves gold due to autumn?s chill. The light infused the cemetery with an ethereality that pulled my heart toward the surface of my skin. The glow I felt in the cemetery that day echoed the golden…

In "Pied Beauty" we see a striking dualism in which the nature of beings is rendered in all that is unique, particular and individual. All multiplicity and diversity are the gift of God in the creation of being, emanating from Himself. Gerard Manley Hopkins gives praises to God for the natural beauty of the world, the variety of it and how everything fits together. God symbolizes what is constant and unchangeable. Unlike the things he creates, God never varies. Hopkins' symbols confirm his theme that a wondrous father exist because the worlds if full of beautiful things living in harmony.…

The freshly watered grass gleams as if it were dotted with sparkling diamonds in the late afternoon day. Beautiful, wild flowers grow untamed and uncultivated on one side of the field while on the other side trees covered the perimeter as far as the eyes could see. A silent stream trickles gently through the clean-cut rocks placed in middle of the field, divided the field into two. Not many knew where to find this sun-dappled, ethereal beauty of God’s private chapel and those who did, did not dare to come here for the fear of getting lost from the clearly marked trail.…
