Physical Therapist: A Self Analysis
Being a leader requires a great ability to be looked towards during times of need. It is important to have leadership skills in order to thrive as a PT because they are the individuals who are directing the plan of care that is so vital towards the patient not having movement dysfunction. I have had numerous experiences within a volunteering capacity in the past. My previous experiences have given me a positive foundation to have the empathy that is required to have a successful career as a physical therapist. I recently volunteered as a rehabilitation technician at RIC at Silver Cross Hospital. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” The reason that this is a good quote is because Michael was telling us how he was able to succeed in his basketball life. He took many shots and missed many shots but he was able to still be successful in spite of that. I have previously been enrolled in PT school in the past, but I was dismissed from the program. I have since been accepted to another PT program and now I know that I will succeed within this program because I will be able to look back at how my previous experience was and I will utilize these experiences to drive myself towards the success of becoming a high quality physical therapist. As a future PT I will put my patient’s needs first and the information that I obtain while in school will allow me to have the proper knowledge to provide appropriate interventions for my patients so that they are making progress towards achieving their goals. I know that I will succeed because I have the volunteering experiences to help me understand the positives of helping someone who has a physical ailment improve their condition. I would say that all of the PTs displayed great leadership qualities which I was able to pick up on during my tenure at RIC at Silver Cross Hospital. I have also learned about how I envision myself as a physical therapist based on my teaching experiences from previous teachers.
