Physical Confrontation And Violence In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
They say all is fair in love and war, but sometimes war is the only option. Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare gives us the blessed story of the forbidden lovers Romeo and Juliet, who marry under Friar Lawrence’s power, and die by their own wills to avoid the long-standing suffering of losing each other Through the ages, we have depicted great acts of violence, from bombs, to slaughters, to hostile takeovers. We have settled with words before with our guns, hopefully before there are casualties. Yet, words have not always settled the score, not being enough to provide salvation for those innocent and those fighting In our world, words aren’t always the best or most final choice, yet we could’ve had a much more solid answer with physical confrontation and violence.

At the mere beginning of Romeo and Juliet, we were introduced to men of the Montague house and men of the Capulet house, coming across the first conflict, as started with the mere conversation, “Samp: I do bite my thumb, sir. Abr: Do you bite your thumb at us, sir? Samp: aside to Greg Is the law on our side, if I say ay? Greg: aside to Samp No. Samp: No, sir, I do not bite my thumb at you sir; but I do bite my thumb” (Shakespeare 1.1.20-52). In this conversation, we can see how the behavior of the Capulets home is towards those of the Montague home, the Capulet servants Gregory and Sampson willing to poke fun at Sampson, who is of the house of Montague, as in this quote it is revolving around Sampson biting his thumb at Abraham.
