Physical Activity and Stress in College Freshman.

Introduction: This study was conducted with freshmen from a public university. It is a longitudinal study with two baselines of 3 month and 6 month outcomes that were evaluated with questionnaires. 167 freshmen were surveyed from the ages of 18 to 25. The goal of this study was to examine college freshmen to determine if their healthy lifestyle would promote to more/less stress in various situations with interpersonal relationships, stress managements, and alcohol consumption. As noted in class, stress is any challenge to the system, which is the physiological response to a physical, cognitive or emotional stimulus. College students, especially freshmen, has to cope with these stress in different ways, either by smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol. I believe that various factors such as gender, to being in a social greek organization, to the severity of on- campus drinking to living at home with your parents would play a huge factor in the outcome.
Hypothesis:
The purpose of this study, which is already a substudy of a previous experiment, was to help prevent drinking in college students. This study was also designed to see the outcomes of healthier life styles that are associated with levels of stress that were assessed in either interpersonal relationships, stress management, and alcohol consumption. The author has 3 different hypothesis, which was where college students who engages in regular physical activity will have lower levels of stress, better interpersonal relationships, and less alcohol consumption.
Participants:
The participants were 167 college freshmen that were capable of reading and speaking English. They were chosen through a questionnaire that included demographic information on age, gender, race/ ethnicity, education level and place of residence. They

    This model begins with social assessment. This was done using the CHEW and Needs Interest Survey. From these surveys, the target populations health risks and concerns were defined. Of these top stressors, genetic problems may include personal appearance or personal health issues.     While each campus across the United States is unique( 2 year,4 year, commuter, residential, private, public, a small college or large multi-specialty university), and its population objectives slightly differ according to region and student’s needs, there are some common health impediments to academic performance that occur on all campuses.     Drugs and alcohol use has been a common and consistent problem in the United States for quite a long time. From the prohibition era in the 1920’s to the common drug use seen in the 1970’s, we have always seen a problem that needs to be addressed. An array of scholars, from all the disciplines, have each experimented and researched this topic in their own unique ways. The natural sciences take a purely scientific approach by hypothesizing and using the scientific method to research and made evaluative claims based on experiment and observation as shown in the article “Relationship between Vigorous Exercise Frequency and Substance Use Among First-Year Drinking College Students”.     Americans today tend to believe that college is four years of partying and fun while earning a degree, and there is validity in that belief, but one must also include the four years of learning and hard work.
