PEER GROUP CONNECTION
Introduction Letter
December 15, 2014
Dear Juniors and Parents/Guardians of Juniors,
Peer Leadership is being offered in the 2015-2016 school year. The program advisors will head a selection committee to select qualified students to be Peer Leaders. The application and selection process includes:
1. Filling out an application and submitting it to Ms. Pooler in the Main Office BY
12 PM ON January 16, 2015. No application will be accepted after this time and date. If the student is absent from school on that day, his/her application must still be submitted. THIS DATE AND TIME WILL NOT BE EXTENDED.
2. Contacting THREE teachers, coaches, or activity advisors to complete an evaluation form.
3. Attending a mandatory after school assigned interview. The interview will be sometime following the application deadline (January 16, 2015) and prior to spring break (Please check morristownhigh.com/pgc for the interview schedule).
Peer Group’s focus is to improve a student’s ability to make appropriate decisions and choices, to help freshmen transition from middle school to high school, to cope with academic and social pressures, to provide peer leaders with training in group dynamics and leadership skills, and to have fun.
Peer Leaders will be enrolled in an academic class of seniors and two advisors, which will meet three class periods a week. In addition, they will meet two lunch blocks a week leading a small group of freshmen. The leaders will be working in pairs or triads to develop a strong bond/rapport within their groups. Freshmen look to their leaders and are influenced by them in many ways.
Students selected to become Peer Leaders will be responsible for a serious commitment of time and energy. They will be in a position of leadership and will be put in the position of helping and supporting others. Some activities may require being excused from school.
Other requirements of Peer Leaders are:
1. Punctuality and excellent attendance.
