Petruchio And Katherine's Relationship
Petruchio and Katherine’s relationship showed a different meaning of love between the Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You. In the 1600s women were property and in the movie Katherine had a say in who she went out with. In the Taming of the Shrew Petruchio was in it for the money and never loved Katherine, but in 10 Things I Hate About You Patrick was paid to take Katherine out and ended up falling in love with her. These differences are between the Shakespearian play The Taming of the Shrew and the movie 10 things I Hate about You. The main characters in both of these are Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew and Patrick in 10 things I Hate About You. The comparisons are the motive, how they got together, and the overall relationship.
In both versions Petruchio and Patrick had a similar aim, but it turned out different. In the play Petruchio just married Katherine because he found out that she came from a rich family and he couldn’t see past the money. This is an example of that “Petruchio, shall I be frank? I know where you can find a shrewish and unpleasant wife. I doubt you’d thank me in the end, but she’s rich, all right, very rich.
