Persuasive Speech On Drinking And Driving
At the age of 16 we get our license. With one simple test we get a card that says were allowed to drive. We get in an over 4,000-pound object and move it around at 60 miles per hour. This causes around 8 teen deaths per day, making car accidents the leading cause of teen death. We get behind a wheel, we get distracted, we cause an accident, and just like that someone loses a child. At 18 we're allowed to smoke. We put a different combination of 4,000 chemicals in our bodies for no specific purpose. This includes 43 unknown compounds that are cancer causing and 400 other toxins. But the cancer doesn’t appear immediately, the cigarettes are addictive. You wake up in the morning and crave one. You can't get through a meal without thinking about one. You

Yet everyone seems to realize the danger of drinking when we are 21. We are allowed to do this new and exciting thing, drink. Then when we are done, we do something that doesn't cross our minds as dangerous. We get in our cars. We've been doing it for 5 years now, we don’t even have to think about it. 10,265 people died due to drinking and driving in 2015 alone. And 1.1 million people were arrested for driving while intoxicated. What I believe should be done to fix this problem is to change the legal ages for drinking and driving. The drinking age should be 16. At this age the body is developed most of the way so that there would not be growth impairment. The child would be under their parent's supervision still so that the drinking would be in a safe and contained environment. This would also take the danger away from teens having to sneak out to parties to drink. The driving age should be 18. By then, the excitement of drinking has died down. Also, they are a bit more grown before they get behind the wheel. I believe that this would make the rate of deaths by drunk drivers go down. It would also make the teen death rate from vehicle accidents in general go
