Persuasive Speech On Child Soldiers
Imagine holding an AK- 47 on the front lines of war. 300,000 children worldwide experience this daily according to human right watch. Child soldier refers to any person under the age of 18 placed in the face of war. This issue discusses the rights of children and how they shouldn’t be involved in death, murder or fighting, but instead, experience the innocence of being a child. Children are abducted from their homes and schools are forced to work as spies, cooks or guards. Girls are subjected to rape and sexual assault and given as wives to commanders.
Children Soldiers obstruct the articles 5 the right to education and 26 no one shall be subject to torture of the Universal declaration of Human rights.
Child soldiers are deprived of food, shelter and medicare causing malnutrition and mental disease such as post dramatic stress order. In 1989 the Convention on the right of children a legally binding international instrument of Human rights clearly layouts, articles about the correct treatment of any child. Child Soldiers defy all the article, especially article 36 protection from harm and 9 separation from parents. Previously Somalia’s limited and ineffective Provisional constitution protected children from being in armed. In the constitution it claims that child soldier are illegal but why is it still so prominent? In 2015 the UN received reports that violation of children had increased by 50% compared to the preceding year in Somalia. Additionally, Somalia has 18 different administrative regions plus the country is divided into autonomous countries such as Puntland and Somaliland. Leading to corruption and incoherence causing children rights to fall in-between the cracks as a human rights issue. Therefore Somalia’s domestic laws are highly ineffective in protecting children allowing them to be an easy target of
