Everyday a young mind is exposed to commercials on the television, internet, or social media that depicts the image of perfection. Taylor Swift signed with Coca-Cola to represent the face of Diet Coke, which in turn became more popular than before. Swift tends to be a role model for girls of the ages thirteen to eighteen. Her songs speak volumes about self empowerment and self image, yet she endorses brands like Coca-Cola and CoverGirl, who actively encourage adolescents to be unhealthy or ashamed of who they are. Swift is not the only celebrity though who endorses negative companies. Athletes like Lebron James have endorsed brands such as Sprite and McDonald's as well. The young generation comes to admire celebrities like James and Swift, who develop their image to seem perfect on social media and interviews. Swift drinks Diet Coke, while having a healthy body and flawless face. In reality, Diet Coke can lead to an unhealthy body, in the future organ failure, and face breakouts as well. Yet, young minds are not going to think like that, they are going to see Swift and think it is okay to drink unhealthy because she does it and she is the image of perfection. Seeing these celebrities talk about these products makes it easy for developing minds to be intrigued and influenced, which is why corporate companies such as Nike, CoverGirl, and Coca-Cola get their products endorsed. Advertising branches should have their own restrictions to stop this from continuing. Companies should have to follow similar guidelines to the rules that follow the first Amendment. Freedom of Speech has its restrictions, for example, an individual is not allowed to yell fire when there is no fire, because of the safety hazard it would put on a mass amount of people.
