Persuasive Essay On How To Improve School Lunches
Kids have always felt harshly towards their meals provided by the school. A topic brought up often, after years of students receiving nasty foods and ‘’mystery meat.’’ Students have been begging for years for the cafeteria to start serving respectable meals without the students having to wonder what they are putting in their bodies. Now the state is planning for a new ‘’healthier’’ menu in the future. They can say what they want, but, we know that this just means whole grain and other sad attempts to improve the food. We cannot ignore the horrifying reality that is the cafeteria food. It has been served since the beginning of time! It is hard to eat something that you know has just been frozen and processed. They use the excuse of these …show more content…
If they really wish to improve the food, they need to start serving the real thing, fresh, not canned. I feel this would translate over into better performance in the classroom before and after lunch. If you have something to look forward to on your classes prior to lunch, you will have more motivation. Whereas, if you have who knows what for lunch, there is nothing to work towards. After lunch you will be better fueled for upcoming classes. Now I know that the lunch staff cannot cook home cooked meals for each student, there would no way to serve every student. Which, I know is part of the problem with improving the food. However, the state needs to come up with a plan for better, more efficient food. A plan that works out for every aspect of the situation. Which needs to include the food, cost, and production. If all of this is considered I know there is a better system. The students do understand that they are working the best they can with what they are giving. Just this year we have incorporated a salad bar. Which, has to out to be fresh and awesome! We need more improvements like this, which is why we are not begging for a heathier menu, but, in fact a better

    I did not design the lunch menu for my center; however, I serve it to my children on a daily basis. We use the CRMC food service, which has many benefits. One positive aspect is that there is no extra cost to the center, and enough food is delivered daily so that each child is served the appropriate proportions. My center works with the hospital to create a “short cycle menu,” a menu that is different everyday and repeats itself after a certain number of days, specifically a one-week cycle menu that is chosen by our director with faculty input.     Recently there has been revisions to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and schools were required to overhaul their entire menus to provide the students with healthy and nutritious foods including fruits and vegetables.     The state of school lunches has been a point of debate for many since Michelle Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act signed into law December of 2010, giving full authority to the USDA in setting the nutritional standards for all foods regularly sold in school lunch lines, stores, and vending machines.
