Personal Narrative: Victims Of Sexual Assault
Throughout my college-life, I have never been sexually assaulted nor raped, but I have heard stories from friends who did experience one or both. According to studies, 1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted in college. Although I heard stories about sexual assault and rape from friends, I never thought a family member of mine was a victim of sexual assault. My mother was sexually assaulted when she was a sophomore at college that took place at a house party.
During my mother’s sophomore year, she and her sorority friends were invited to a house party by one of her fraternity friends so, they went. When they arrived at the party, there were a few people present at the party and like most house parties, alcohol was served. Throughout the party, my mother socialized with her friends. My mom also did drink alcohol to the

However, I was a bit disappointed that my mother did not call the police to report the assaulter because every victim deserves justice. I admit, I was also glad that he was beaten up , but violence will only make things worse. My mom did reveal that he did apologize to her few months later. Furthermore, I agree with my mother about bringing family and friends with you wherever you go. However, if a person were to go somewhere alone, he or she should always let someone know where he or she is going. In addition, not only women should protect themselves, but men as well because men can be sexually assaulted or raped as well. Lastly, my mother never ever wants me to handle the situation like she did without calling law enforcement and she advices me to never be afraid to tell her if someone sexually assaulted me. Luckily, I have learned self-defense and bring my cell phone and pepper spray in case of sexual assault or rape. Overall, the interview was informative for me to know that anything can happen and it is important to prepare for dangerous

This is an example of domestic violence. When a person is a victim of the awful act of rape, clearly, that person is not safe. There is no one there to save her; she is unprotected as usual. She does tell her mother about how the uncle abused her. She says: “Mom, Uncle Stanley is behaving inappropriately. He groped me! And he is wanking off!” (184). She clearly describes the scene of how she is not feeling secure. The mother did not pay attention to her at all. She ignored the fact that she is in danger.…

Women whose experiences do not conform to this stereotype or script are regularly seen as less than “real” or true victims. They are sometimes framed as women who have brought it upon themselves because their demeanor, behavior, or dress provoked the assailant (Williams, 1994) or because they were once engaged in an intimate relationship with the assailant. Since rape scripts assign extensive blame to the victim and since most rapes do not conform the “classic” scenario, survivors of acquaintance rape are less apt than victims of stranger rape to label the experience of sexual assault as rape. (Koss, 1992). They are also less likely to report their victimization to the police (Koss, 1992), and more likely to be blamed by others…

This is another quote that focuses on the amount of women all over the world who are forced to last (through bad times) whatever harm comes their way. Not only in Afghanistan, but in every country, and every neighbourhood. This is an on going issue in the world that has been around for centuries and is one that is often times 'swept under the rug.' To me, this issue should not be over looked at all, and I would certainly like to see and take part in educating (communities of people) on women's…

It’s extraordinary to think about how we take so much for granted - another belief we take for granted is that every night the stars will shine. When you wake up in the morning and make plans for the day, you never really contemplate those plans changing entirely in the blink of an eye. I had never thought much about it, personally, until I was faced with Death himself. I don't think anyone really contemplates tragedy until it knocks on their front door. In fact, it doesn’t even knock – it forces itself in and threatens to leave you with nothing but heartache and suffering for the remainder of your miserable life. Traumatic events can occur in numerous ways, at any time in one’s life. Some are lucky enough to get away with them. Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky.…

Sexual assault is very common. For a bad act as this, it is surprising how frequently assault occurs. Sexual assault is the most pressing issue faced by a younger generation that is not being addressed adequately, and while plenty of research is being done, not so much action is being taken. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) “National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS), nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men in the United States have been raped at some time in their lives, and nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced other forms of sexual violence victimization in their lifetime" (CDC). The problem of sexual assault is terrifying because rather than declining, it has become rampant. However, if people are taught about how horrific sexual assault is at a young and impressionable age, the high rates of sexual assault would decrease significantly. When the Association of American Universities conducted research on sexual assault in universities, the results were shocking. 11% of female…

Sexual assault can happen anywhere and to anyone, no sexual assault experience is the same as another. Sexual assault usually has no boundaries that stop the perpetrator such as age, disability, or socioeconomic standing (Central MN Sexual Assault Center, n.d). Sexual assault goes so far beyond rape. It was definitely a traumatic experience that happened fast but felt as though it transpired dramatically slower than it did. After the accident was definitely a long dreadful process, that included it taking me almost two months to fully recover. It was unreal how an amazing day went bad and caused various consequences.…
