Personal Narrative: The Sport Of Softball
You're suppose to hit the ball with the aluminium stick and its supposed to go to the grass, and then you have to run around the white things sticking out of the ground. Thats all I knew about the game of softball, but I still wanted to play and learn. Both my parents played, and I always went to their games and wanted to be out there with them. I didin't care if I was out in the beating sun with dust flying everywhere, it was the place to be. When my parents told me they had signed me up for tee ball I was so excited, but then I started crying because I had only watch it i had never played. I was five years old when I had my first game, I was so nervous, but i was having fun so that didn't matter. It was my first time up to bat, I …show more content…
It took a couple minutes, but I had finally arrived to first base. I had the biggest smile on my face, I was over joyed, but after looking at my coach the smile dissapeared. When I got back to the dugout I was immediatly taken out of the game, and had to think about what I did wrong. I was only five years old, and I made one little mistake and got punished for it. Tears started running down my face, so my I had to leave the game. My parents were furoius, so their was a lot of yelling and screaming towards my coach. As I sat in the car waiting for my parents I thought to myself, "this was suppose to be what I wanted to do throughout my life. I wanted to be just like my parents, but I wasn't good enough." In that instant I relized I needed to practice more. I needed to learn more about the game. After my parents got back in the car I told my dad that when we get home we have to start practicing. He gave me a strange look, but went along with it anyway. When we got home I asked him to tell me everything he knew about the game of softball. We spent all night practicing, and from that moment on I worked hard everyday to get better. Tee ball turned into baseball, which then turned into softball. I played from peanut B to varsity, and by varsity I had become extremely literate in the game of

I attended every all-star practice before our first game and was hungry with anticipation. The all-star tournament was single elimination, so if we lost even a single game it would all be over. I had some really good friends on the team although I was probably one of the least skilled players. We practiced nearly every day the two weeks before our first game. My excitement was steadily increasing with every practice.…

“You did not make the softball team” is a sentence I heard almost invariably. I had just moved to Texas, where I was thrust into a whole new world of sports. Athletes played year round, unlike the north where sport seasons were only six months long because of the cold, likewise, the competition was unlike anything I had ever seen. I tried out for over a dozen teams, from the very best to the very worst and did not make one. Inevitably, there was always a girl who was faster, stronger, and overall better than I was. I was eventually given a choice, to quit softball and pursue another hobby or continue to play softball and refuse to let others beat me. I choose the ladder.…

An experience that has helped to shape my life was an incident I had with a pro-baseball player during the 2012 and 2013 baseball seasons. According to my viewpoint, the conflict started after we were assigned to our respective leagues for that season. I started observing that “the player” (name that I would use to identity and protect the person’s identity) did not want to follow the strength and conditioning program as the rest of his teammates. ‘The player’s” behavior had several implications: one, “the player” could get injured since he was doing what he considered was best. Two, other players thought I had favoritism with "the player" and tried to do the same. And three, I could had lost my job if any team player got injured by not abiding to the program stipulated.…

Softball has become an important part of my life ever since I joined the Centennial Lakes Little League in 2010. This was my first sport and I had never been on a team before. I had no prior sports skills because I had never played any before this one. The day I walked into the facility for the first time I knew it was just my first day of softball, but what I did not know was that it was the first day I would shape my personality and discover my priorities. Being only eleven years old I was not putting much thought into my future, but being involved in this association made it effortless to develop useful life long skills that would also help me develop and grow as a successful student. Communication is one of the most notable skills that…

It is the bottom of the ninth and I was last at bat. The ball came zooming towards me at a high rate of speed. The vibration of metal meeting leather rang out in my hands. No hesitation was made. I dropped the bat and ran as fast as I could to first base. My coach was telling me to keep going because the ball was fumbled. I rounded third base and my coach motioned for me to take it home with a slide. Down I went. Dust was flying. The crowd was standing and cheering loudly as the referee motions and yells, “Safe!” All I heard was screaming as dust still loomed the air around me. I could manage to see my team going wild, jumping, and screaming. Everyone seemed to be celebrating except me.…

Every single day I was outside either playing catch or working out. I remember at the time I was playing for the St Louis Sting, I continued the season to have the most innings pitched, lowest earned run average, second highest batting average, most doubles, most strike outs, and I also pitched my first no-hitter. Without having the dedication or motivation none of this could have happened. I went from playing catch once a week to everyday. I also would continue on and play baseball at Parkway South High School and lead that season in strikeouts. As I grew older I started to realize that I have the capability to play baseball for the rest of my life and that's something that is unexplainable. To be able to do something you love to do for the rest of your life is remarkable to me. I get that all because of a game.…
