Personal Narrative: The Marcus Shain Cromean
On the twentieth of April of 1990, the world was graced with my presence. I am The Marcus Shain Cromeans. I am a very complex human being with strong opinions and amazing abs. Through the travels of my life, I have learned that there are many things that define who a person is. Three things that define me are my compassion for others, my uncanny ability to get into trouble, and my ability to make people laugh. Although I am a little rough around the edges, I have a soft spot in my heart for those whom I love. My family keeps me going through the good, the bad, and the ugly. My parents are still happily married, even through twenty-two years of putting up with four children. My three sisters are amazing. Their names are Shannon, Ashley, and Lynnsy. I do, in fact, play favorites when it comes to siblings. Ashley is my favorite because she is always around helping me with whatever I need. I also am very close to my cousin, Matt Hare, and his family. I consider everyone an acquaintance because I do not like to get too close to people emotionally. If there was ever anything that any of my family needed, I would do everything I could to help them obtain it.. …show more content…
My definition of fun is running through Wal-Mart with people doing random things to purposely get kicked out such as riding tricycles through the aisles, squirting soaps and shampoos on the floor and sliding, and put randomly awkward things into other people’s carts. I love to play around and pretend that I am a kid. It keeps me youthful and happy. I like to party with people, and I love to be the center of attention. Most people know my name, but they do not know me personally. This is because people tell stories about my past experiences, and they will one day make me a

My insider/outsider partner was Alicia Garcia. As you can tell by her last name she is Hispanic. I don’t have many Hispanic friends and I am not use to their culture. Starting on the project Alicia told me a little a bit about her heritage. One of the things I asked her was, “Do you celebrate the day of the dead?” I know that might seem like a crazy question to ask, but I the only thing that I truly knew about her culture is what I seen on TV. Alicia said that they do celebrate it to some extent. They don’t actually go to a grave site and light candles for their fallen relatives, but instead have a feast in honor of them. Alicia is the first generation American Hispanic.…

Hi!! My name is Jamie Zanfardino. I am an alternate Social Work major. Over this past summer, I took a trip to Hawaii with my high school explorers club. I don’t remember much about how my family died, I was just a three year old boy; Keenan Waren. All I can remember is it was Thanksgiving day with my whole family. I know it was this day because the smell of the turkey was burnt into my memory, and it’s also what the people at the orphanage told me as I was growing up. Something else I can recall is seeing a tall, bulky shadow holding a green flame in his hand after the lights shut off. Everyone was screaming, but I am still unsure of what was happening to them. My mom carried me out into the rainy night in front of the house in my carseat, and I was crying for the teddy bear my aunt gave me for my first birthday. I kept crying, so my mom covered me with blanket and ran back inside to grab it…

Throughout my academia, I have been a member of several clubs and organizations, but have yet to attend a free leadership and service conference. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars needs a free in-person event that hosts a multitude of workshops from becoming a better member, to becoming a better leader and more. This event should be a two-day weekend long including update meetings on how the organization is accomplishing its endeavors and goals in terms of membership count, influence in the community, and upcoming events. During a workshop, we could bring in experts to discuss how to become a better writer to increase our chances of earning NSCS scholarships and other scholarships. In another workshop, our members and club leaders…

One of the most challenging things a person can experience is leaving everything you’ve ever known behind and starting completely over somewhere else. Eva does this in the Lost in Translation by moving from Poland all the way to Canada when she is just a teenager. When I was sixteen years old my family moved from Minnesota to Texas. This isn’t quite as drastic of a change as in Lost in Translation, but many of the things Eva experienced I can relate with even if I just crossed numerous state line borders. Eva says “My mother says I’m becoming “English.” This hurts me, because I know she means I’m becoming cold.” I’ve realized as I’ve lived in Texas for the last four years I’ve started to say stuff and do things I would have never done in Minnesota.…

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

There has been many cases in which I have helped an outsider feel welcome. One time in particular is when I played tag with this little boy at church since he was new and no one else played with him. Originally, I was outside eating candy and talking to my friends at church. I noticed that this little boy was standing all alone watching all the other little kids play without him. I thought that maybe he was upset so I went over to him and asked if he wanted the rest of my gummy worms. He seemed nervous at first, but eventually he started talking to me. I learned that he was five years old and he was visiting his grandparents for the weekend. His older brother was outside playing basketball with some of the other older boys at the church, and…

Throughout my life, I have faced a number of crucibles but one, in particular, is more prominent than the rest. About five years ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, a traumatic experience that affected my entire family. Each member of my immediate family chose to deal with the news in different ways, however, I am the only one that elected to live in denial. Sadly, the only way I knew how to cope with such devastating news was to continue living my life as if nothing was happening. Denial is simply unsustainable as you cannot escape the memories that the crucible has formed. Nevertheless, years after my mom was originally diagnosed I began to appreciate the experience for what it was rather than shy away from it; developing hardiness.…

After retaking the LASSI I have noticed a considerable amount of improvement as well as regression. In the beginning of the year, I vowed to myself that I would become a better student. I wanted to maximize all of my abilities in order to be successful. So, after I took my first LASSI and had my talk with Mac, I began to implement new strategies meant to help me accomplish my goal. First I had to deal with my anxiety. In past years I suffered with a lot of anxiety while learning math. I used to love math very much, however, this changed after my 6th grade year. Math became a foreign subject to me. I could no longer make connections and solve problems. As a result, my grades in math began to drop. As a person who is used to getting A’s and B’s on assignments, I had a difficult time in coping with my failure since it didn’t live up to my standards in the subject of math. My difficulty with math eventually caused me to have anxiety. I had carried this anxiety until my sophomore year in high school. It seemed as if no matter how hard I tried to concentrate on math tests my mind would always become blank. Luckily I had an…

I would have to say that I have a good relationship with everyone on my mom's side compared to my dad's side. My grandfather lives in Puerto Rico and we only see him during Christmas time. He divorced my grandmother a couple years before I was born and I absolutely hate his wife. I love my grandmother, even though I don't see her as much either. But we aren't as close as I am with my other grandmother. I seriously think that my aunt is insane, therefore I don't talk to her as much as I should. My cousin is attending college in some state that I am unaware of, so that should say enough about my relationship with him. I really wish I was closer with him, though. Then comes my dad. To be honest, I don't love my father. Sometimes I think that I'm a really bad person for not loving him, but I can't help it. He and I barely exchange words around the house. There is just something about him that I don't respect.…
