I started patterning by taking a long-sleeved shirt and placing it on some ancient craft paper that kept on curling. I traced the shirt and hastily drew some hem lines on the tunic and sleeve patterns.
I used the same patterning method for other parts of my costume, but with more patience. My mom worked the sewing machine.
I constantly tried to figure out how to make rocks that hung around my neck. I tried to use clay over styrofoam, but the rocks turned out too

I remember that it hurt. It was if someone struck all the air out of my lungs. I tried with all of my might to breathe but it seemed as if I were incapable.I looked for something, anything to hold onto for support. Everyone watched in horror as I sank to the ground and the sob that was stuck in my throat escaped. I was feeling emotions I never felt before, that I didn’t know existed. The two Marines in Dress Blues who stood at attention looked on, their faces mostly emotionless, except their eyes which were filled with pity as they said they were sorry for my loss. My best friend rushed over the office to wrap her arms around my shoulders. The only way she could hold me seeing as I was on my knees crying into my hands. I could feel her sympathy,…

In its modernity, Halloween is the only day out of the entire year where a person is encouraged to be someone wildly different from themselves, with (almost) no negative repercussions. Thus, people tend to outdo themselves when it comes to crafting their "persona" for the night, taking much of their inspiration from movies, video games, the news, and even Internet memes to build the greatest costumes.…

It was a regular Saturday morning, I was browsing through the day’s newspaper, the news entitled ‘Acid attack survivors’ grabbed my attention and I ended up reading the whole news. And as my thoughts were with the victims, two facts the cutting edge technology at this point of time laid forward stroke in my mind. First, how it gave the victims new lives and second, how the survivors could have their burned areas concealed with the artificial skin which to some extent restored their beauty and confidence too. But, what exactly was the artificial skin? The question kept on haunting me every now and then. Not to mention, I had never heard about the so called artificial skin before that instance. Well, I could not wait but find out what truly is…

I agree with you Jessica on having unrealistic images of yourself and the difference between looking a certain way and feeling a certain way. Cultural identity is a big deal to teenage girls because it projects her identity based on a certain groups that she associates with (Matlin, 2012, p. 124). In high school I was in the group of misfits, that happen to be mainly boys, and we had friends in other groups but we did not fit in anywhere else. Even though I projected an image of not caring about what others thought of me, I still felt I was fat and when I looked in the mirror, I saw myself as fat. I look back now and I was at an ideal weight then but currently I still think and feel I am obese. I am reminded by the doctor during every checkup…

Uncanny... If I was looking for own only word to describe my past life. Father and mother, of course, were the foundation of my being. Bur, in what way? By giving me labels that I am force to carry even today. I do not blame them as they attend to their way of acting ethically. Later on I have discovered that some labels were not supposed to present me to the world. Therefore, I renounced them. Always dissented with the status quo of the time, I was looking for some sort of comfort discovering something without words: music. That was my ailment and the tentative remedy for the time that I have to pass during this life. This was my pathos. The embryonic values of the time were carried out without warning, and we were blind and deaf... we just…
