Personal Narrative: My Pursuit Of Honor
I have learned quite a bit as a runner and as a person over the past year. Most importantly I was honored to serve as one of the captains for both the cross country and track/field teams in my final year of high school. Through being a captain of such a big team, like Novi, I learned the ins and outs on how to make the TEAM successful. It all starts with an individual goal. You have to set a standard for yourself, in order for you to have some idea of what you want. By creating a goal it will allow you to self-motivate yourself to positively impact yourself and the team. The saying “80% of racing is mental, 20% is physical” is very true in this sense. You have to take extra measures in helping your mind focus to be able to achieve any goal in life. …show more content…
After finally getting healthy, I ran 700 quality miles over the summer last year which made me value and respect running on a whole new level. Over the summer I was given the opportunity to further my experience at Wolverine Cross Country camp, but instead of a camper, this year I was a counselor. Through being a counselor, it re-amped up my motivation and appreciation of running, I was in the hard, long, mileage weeks during

Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper.…

There were many times I wanted to quit or give up but I didn’t even though I really wanted to at points. I remember the last three meets, they were the best. They were in Shenandoah, Atlantic, then Clarinda. Shenandoah was my favorite course i'm not sure why maybe it was the trees and the paths we had to run of were fun, it was shady most of the places and filled with plants and trees on a dirt path. At Atlantic it was pouring rain all day and when it came time for the middle schoolers to run it was muddy and people were falling at the start, everyone got super muddy and wet. Then in Clarida it was the last meet and I was super nervous right when we got there I knew it was gonna be hard. When we walked part of the course there were corn fields and trees on the outside of it. When we got up to the start I was nervous I said I saw scared for the other ones well this one was 10 times worse but the gun went off and we ran and finished, then it was over. The season went fast, it was long but fast at the same time. It was fun scary, hard, but…

What were some specific challenges you faced? • Sometimes trying to find the right running team can be difficult. The best solution that I came up with, was to research the local running groups. I have noticed that some teams were having “try-outs” and excluding the less experienced runners. • Feeling positive about my finishing times.…

My freshman year, I decided to join my high school Cross Country team. When I started running, it quickly became clear that I was not a gifted athlete. I was slow and often did not enjoy the sport. When the season first started, it took me forty minutes to run a 5k. This time was appalling but oddly, it was what kept me from giving up. There were times when I wanted to quit and go back to never running but the thought of that forty-minute 5k stopped me from doing so. I stayed on the team and pushed myself harder and harder every day. When I felt like stopping, I made myself go even further. I came to practice every single day and sometimes I stayed late. On the days that we did not have practice as a team, I ran on my own. I was dedicated…

One may think that once Outdoor Track starts in the spring that the conditions are perfect for a runner. However, this sport has certain obstacles that must be overcome to be successful. Since this sport occurs at the end of the school year, most student athletes are itching to finish the season and get on with summer vacation. Besides that, the weather, like the end of the fall, is constantly changing; it can be warm one day and the next day it can be cold. Rather than slacking off and just going through the motions, it takes lots of determination and dedication to stay motivated to compete in the…

During my time running cross country last year, I attempted to push myself and inspire those around me. Even after the season had ended I wanted to push myself just a bit farther; I accomplished this by running a half marathon. After I had finished, my fellow teammates who did not run felt inspired by me, and they were sure that they wanted to run the same half marathon after the next season. Having inspired them, I felt as if I accomplished much more than running a half marathon. I was able to take a small part in leading them to their future…

I have been on the cross country and track team for my freshman, sophomore, and junior year. I will also run cross country and track when I am a senior in the fall. Being a part of both of these teams has strengthened my character, and has made me a better leader.…

I do not remember my first season that well, but I do remember thinking that I did not plan on running cross country ever again. When next year came around I decided to play soccer, and I played soccer until my sophomore year when I started to lose interest in the sport. When my junior year came around I thought I might as well try cross country again. I did not have that many friends who ran cross country, but I did get one of my friends to try it with me. Ever since that decision I have loved running cross country, and I wish I never gave it up in fifth grade. I have made many new friends, and accomplished goals I did not believe I was capable of accomplishing. For instance, I never thought I would be able to run a three mile race in under 19:30, however this past season I beat my goal and ran my best three mile ever in 19:26. This experience taught me that if I list my goals out and put in the effort with no excuses, I will be able to achieve my goals. I will use this lesson all throughout my studies and use it to help achieve my goals in my…

Sixth grade started it all, running the four-hundred-meter dash for the first time. Finishing, with a time of a minute and six seconds, I won first place out of all graduating classes that day. I was tired, but excited that I ran a race and somehow won. After that, my times continued to improve. At the end of my seventh-grade year, I was eligible to run at state. I was nervous, but I had the mindset to win. Every day at practice I worked my hardest, until state. BOOM! "The day happened so quick!" State, where I wanted to win the four-hundred-meter dash; and do my best during my other three events. I came in with lots of nerves, but I knew what I came to compete for. Finishing the four-hundred-meter dash, I placed sixth. Sixth place wasn't my goal, but I did become ranked third in the state for the 2019 graduation…

I ran track for four years in high school, and made a lot of great memories. When I think back about it, I realize how much I improved from my freshman year to my senior year. I started off being a slow runner, never trying or caring and it showed in my track meets. I was always getting last or close to last, but I didn’t care. I had more fun hanging out with my friends and playing around. It wasn’t until my junior year I really started to try. I didn’t want to waste all four years and regret it even more. I made a decision that I was going to go to every practice and give it my all every day. It slowly started to pay off; by the end of my junior year I ran my best time in the 400-meter dash. I was very happy and could not wait for next year.…

Now I shall say when I was very happy. Even from my early days, I used to take interest in games. My elder brothers used to take me to the sports and matches. Whenever I saw the victors receiving trophies, I eagerly wished that I must be on the victory stand one day. As I came to the secondary school, I took interest in long distance running. With some boys of my class, I used to take to the track and run. In one of the inter-school competitions I came first in the one kilometer race. This gave me not only satisfaction but also encouraged me to put in more and more effort. I was regularly on the track practicing. I learnt the techniques from my physical instructor. From one kilometer I Learnt slowly to run two kilometers within three minutes. The day when I can do it, is still far-off. Still unceasingly I practice long distance running.…
