Why I Should Be Selected For National Honor Society
I believe that character, service, and leadership are qualities that I possess in order to be selected for National Honor Society. My participation in sports, clubs, and community service throughout my high school career has helped me learn what it is to be a leader, and what it means to have good character. I have been on the cross country and track team for my freshman, sophomore, and junior year. I will also run cross country and track when I am a senior in the fall. Being a part of both of these teams has strengthened my character, and has made me a better leader. Especially now that I am a junior, I have been able to guide the under classmen. Not only when it came to practice or a meet, but I have also been able to help guide …show more content…
If someone is quiet on the team, for example, I will start talking to them and get to know them. I will engage everyone in conversations, and make sure everyone feels welcome on the team. I want to make sure that people know that I am an approachable person, and that anyone on the team can come to me anytime for any reason. Being a leader in this sense has a greater impact than leading the team in workouts or during a race because at the end of the day being a part of a team is so much more than the actual sport. It’s about being a family, and it’s important to me that everyone feels …show more content…
S.A.L.T stands for Student Athlete Leadership Training, and it is a club that you have to get chosen in order to be in. When we would have these meetings we would talk about what it means to be a good teammate, what is means to be a good leader, and what it takes to be a leader. We would read excerpts from books, and watch videos of examples of what a great leader looks like on a sports team. As a group we would discuss our thoughts and ideas about whichever topic we were discussing. This club was very beneficial because I was able to take what I already knew about being a leader, and apply it to our discussions as a group and learn even more. What I realized about being a good leader from my peers through our discussions was that before being a good leader, you have to be a good person and have good character. Character and leadership are traits that are connected because if you don’t have good character, how can you expect people to follow your example? I also just wanted to add that unfortunately, S.A.L.T did not meet this year, and that is why I’ve only been active in this club for my sophomore

A member of such a society based on character, scholarship and leadership is one who can demonstrate these three tasks in their everyday lives. The ease of maintaining a balanced schedule whilst also upholding these characteristics may not be the simplest of tasks at times, even for the best students, although the drive to strive for this essence sets individuals apart from the majority. I believe that in my everyday life, I demonstrate these ideals and would heartily enjoy guiding others in them. To be exercise any of these qualities requires one’s own desire, a desire which I not only try to instill into myself, but into others as well. Being part of the National Honor Society would not only be an honor in and of itself, but an honor which is able to transcend its membership and let a person such as myself try to better the school, town, and familial communities by doing good in each of them.…

I once was a leader for one of the teams when I was a part of the Promise Welfare Society. As a leader in the society, I took my group on a tour around the camping place and helped them build their tents. One of the obstacles we went through was in a competition against the other teams that joined the society. In the competition, my team started to make mistakes and they got distracted, but I was able to get their attention back by keeping them calm so each one of them could finish their part in the…

Not everyone has it in them to be a great leader. Most people do, but do not accept the challenge. Some people may also believe that they are leaders but are not truly fit or put the position to lead in a way that would be aspiring to others. According to Mrs. Stephanie Fontenot, leadership is one of the most important aspects in the classroom and on the basketball court. As soon as she was asked the question,…

At the most rudimentary level, a leader is someone who leads other. But what makes someone a leader? What is it about being a leader that some people understand and use to their advantage? What can you do to be a leader? A leader is a person who has a vision, a drive and a commitment to achieve that vision, and the skills to make it happen. These leadership traits are broken down further into seven beneficial habits in Sean Covey’s book “The 7 Habits of highly Effective Teens” and the fundamental base of leadership found in the 40 developmental assets. The main things that made Douglas a highly effective leader are family support, caring, integrity, school engagement, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win and synergize.…

Through the first part of this paper, I hope to portray and articulate several theories and lessons that I learned from reading the Coach Holtz book. I believe the number one lesson that was driven home throughout the semester and even came up in the Lou Holtz readings was how to become an effective leader. This topic is very important to anyone that is put in a position of superiority because you must get the people that you are in charge of to complete their tasks. Personally, I feel this is one of the cornerstones of being an effective college coach and mentor to leaders of tomorrow.…

The four pillars of the National Honor Society; scholarship, leadership, character, and service are the four qualities of a well-rounded individual. They have not only embodied who I strive to be, but have helped me achieve success and impact throughout my local community and my time as a national honor society member. Scholarship has helped me define not only who I am as a student, but has helped me prepare for my future. Without my drive to maintain my academics and pursue knowledge, I would not have discovered my love and passion for teaching. This newly discovered passion has helped me narrow down my future career, special education. Service, has helped me develop one of my individual characteristics, as I now understand the importance…

Being a member in National Honor Society implies that you are a person of great character. One of the most important qualities that you can possess is leadership. Honesty is one of the key factors to being a good leader. You must be honest towards everyone, and in everything that you do. If a leader wasn't honest, then no one would trust them. And if they weren't trustworthy then who would want to follow their lead? Leadership also requires that you have an optimistic attitude about everything. You have to take control, and look for the best in every situation. No one wants to follow someone who is always in a bad mood, and always looks for something to complain about.…

“The hardest obstacle to overcome in any leadership position is getting past the apathy to get people involved in the process to get things done…The greatest enemy to accomplishment is apathy” (Burke). National Honor Society upholds its members to have 4 important values. These being scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Leadership, in my opinion, is a very important aspect in National Honors Society because you are expected to be a role model by positively inspiring people around you. This quote stuck out because it says that inspiring people is a way to overcome obstacles in leadership. If you inspire people and make them get rid of their apathy, you can overcome stalling in the process and reach accomplishment.…

It is crucial that the future members of this organization exhibit these characteristics to the best of their abilities. For a great majority of my student life, I strived to perform these traits to my utmost capability, aiming to become an excellent example for my fellow peers. Throughout my high school career, I have been on the honor role for every quarter thus far. I feel deep pride and satisfaction in my grades and scholarly accomplishments, for they are a visual example of the hard work and large amount of effort I put into my studies. Although I not acquired any formal leadership positions, I exert my leadership abilities by example. In my classes, I often…
