Personal Narrative: My Passion For Nursing
While choosing my career of Nursing, I knew that it would become a competitive program in college. My passion for Nursing comes with the great experiences of working with kids and being around a lot of children. I have done many volunteer work with the children’s science museum and community centers. If I do not get the opportunity to graduate with a bachelor of science with Nursing then my back up plan would be going into dental hygiene as a second option career. I have always thought about this career as my second choice because it involves with working with either children or adults for the care of their teeth. I was intrigued in dental hygiene since the first time I went to have a check up.

In five or so years I hope to be settled into a job as a dental hygienist. Preferably a job in Rutherford county or surrounding areas. I became interested in the career field in high school after speaking to the hygienist at my dentist office. She was extremely supportive and truthful about what to expect out of this career path. I have also completed 40 hours of job shadowing that have also given me information on what to expect. While most of my activities in my youth consisted of mainly sports, they taught me things such as control, patiences and using my intuition that can be utilized in my future career. Some of these things might include when a hygienist needs steady hands to scrap the plaque off of teeth and not damage anything. Another instance would be knowledge of how to properly use the tools for the job. Patiences will come in handy when working with smaller children. For me to be able to do this as a career I must attend a technical school and obtain a degree in dental hygiene. It takes around 2 years to complete the program. I will be attending Wake Tech in Raleigh not only because I enjoy the area, but their program timeline fits best for me. I would like to have steady employment in 10 years and be able to travel the world. A job with flexible hours is very important to me since I desire an active lifestyle. The typical dentist hours allow for this which is a perk of my future job.…

My duty as a nurse is to promote good and do no harm and respect the patient as the most basic and universal principle. According to the code, my most fundamental accountability is to the patient. In addition, it is my duty to make the most wise and ethical decisions for what is best for the organization. As a leader, I am self-aware of my values and basic beliefs about the rights, duties and goals of human beings. Unfortunately, here utilitarianism of what is best for the common good outweighs what is best for the individual. There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

During the summer I worked at a nursing home to gain some experience in the healthfield. Working as a certified nursing assistant really helped me grow and it is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had, it also was very challenging at times. As I said before I struggle with anxiety, but working as a nursing assistant pushed me to overcome some of the fears I had of communicating. I learned really quick when working in a nursing home you strongly need the ability to have good communication skills because without it you can’t communicate with the charge nurses, the residents or the other C.N.A’s. Everyday that I worked there I used different forms of communications such as body language which I learned says a lot about what a person is feeling.…
