As I was looking for a Physician Assistant program I focused on three main things: research, prestige, and location. I was fortunate enough to discover that Yale PA program exceeded my expectations. As a clinical research assistant, I have had the pleasure to work with great clinicians (doctors and physician assistants alike) who have graduated from Yale Medical School and Yale PA program. Their perseverance, ability to react efficiently and decisively in difficult situations are some of the many qualities that Yale highlights and solidifies in its programs. Furthermore, shadowing one of the physician assistants who graduated from the Yale program gave me a better insight on the rigorously, expectations, and preparations of Yale PA program.…

My start was working at Safeway as a clerk. Although the job had no room for advancement it taught me two things—I liked helping people and I had to go to college to create better opportunities for myself. After pondering possible career moves I made up my mind; since I liked…
During the summer I worked at a nursing home to gain some experience in the healthfield. Working as a certified nursing assistant really helped me grow and it is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had, it also was very challenging at times. As I said before I struggle with anxiety, but working as a nursing assistant pushed me to overcome some of the fears I had of communicating. I learned really quick when working in a nursing home you strongly need the ability to have good communication skills because without it you can’t communicate with the charge nurses, the residents or the other C.N.A’s. Everyday that I worked there I used different forms of communications such as body language which I learned says a lot about what a person is feeling.…

I want to be a lpn because caring for others is my passion and it brings me so much joy knowing that I made a difference in someone's life(Even if it's just by putting a smile on someone face). My dream of becoming a nurse is something that came to me from a very young age. From birth, till my family and I were able to come to the United States, I was in a environment where the health care system believe was to give treatment to those can afford to pay for it. I was men and women dying prematurely from minor health problem because their family couldn’t afford to take them for treatment. It hit me hard when my family and I came to American 2003, we learn that my grandfather die because of hunger. Expersing all these things at such a young…
While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…
When I was thinking about writing this journal post a particular experiences came into my head. I pushed it aside for the fact that it didn't fit the criteria for this journal. However, after struggling trying with writer's block, I gave in to my original thought. The experience I am going to be talking about doesn't fit the criteria of being a patient/nurse interaction because I wasn't with a “patient” or in a clinical setting.…
Why do I want to be an LPN? Well, when I was 8 years old my grandfather passed away from a stroke. I had always wondered why nothing could’ve been done to stop it and help him. As a young child I didn’t find all the answers to my questions until I was older, but I knew then I wanted to have a career as a nurse helping everyone and anyone I could.…
My dream is to be a registered nurse something I would be great at. To achieve my goals I have enrolled myself in college and started taking courses, nursing is something that I crave. The reason I took so much interest in becoming a nurse is because I took care of my son when he was going through recovery from meningitis which was passed down to him at birth. Till then I built a huge passion in taking care of people that is in need of help. I have had other jobs, but none has fulfil me or made me happy as I know being a nurse would be. I would not feel happy with myself if I had not made the decision to go to college and achieve my dream in getting my nursing degree in what I love to do. I cannot keep putting it aside, letting time pass by…
