We were jumping off the wall onto a huge air pillow I made the move called the superman, it’s where I run then jump off do the superman pose and do a frontflip at the last second. We also jumped 10 feet onto a trampoline off a wall and called it fun. So I got to the top

I was a Freshman on the Salem Varsity Gymnastics team, and practice consisted of preparing the team for regionals. An unknown pain in my back wound me up in the trainer's office for an hour of the two and a half hour practice. After finishing the season strong, even though I wanted to give up countless times, pushing myself to work through the pain paid off at regionals. Even though I should have stopped because I made the pain and recovery time longer, I refused to give up on my team the week before regionals. The minute season ended, I decided to go see my doctor, he said I pulled a muscle, and the solution was rest, heat, and ice.…

It’s the last game and we are warming up for the game. We were feeling super confident because we had just won the game before that. But as we see the other team we lost all of our confidence because they were all like 6’3 or taller. After warmups coach told us who was pitching and he said me. I was like what the heck I’m gonna get killed by these monsters. I was a squirmy as a warm cause I was excited to prove myself. As I’m warming up to pitch on the mound I was thinking of what pitches I was gonna throw. When the ump said batter up I knew that I was gonna have to pitch the ball low in the strike zone. The first pitch in the game I accidentally left the ball up and the kid whacked to the fence in the air. That was as fast as race cars start.…

My partner of eleven years is my greatest cheerleader. When I feel overwhelmed and depressed she gives me encouragement to conquer every challenge I’m faced with. In addition to my partner, another influential person in my life is a co-worker and friend. She fills the maternal role that is absent in my life, by giving me advice, different perspectives, and confidence. My career plays a vital role in my resilience, it gives me cause to wake up and achieve greatness each day. The children I work with inspire me to be a better educator, nurturer, and caregiver. When I am feeling depressed nothing lifts my spirits speedier, than my students. I believe it is a gift to have the availability to focus on constructing children’s strengths, rather than…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…

To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Based on my personal knowledge of Pentathlon, I have first-handedly experience the soul of a Pentathlete through various study sessions at Ethan Allen. Because of this, I have developed a deep insight of the components necessary to be a true Pentathlete. In addition to having first-hand experience, I also have extremely high expectations for both myself and other students, for it is essential in my academic growth. I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. I participated in Soccer from sixth grade till ninth grade, because come tenth grade I realized I had a strong passion for running,…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

Two days. Two days was how long the break between training for track, and training for cross country started. As a team our goal was to have the top 12 guys run 500 miles each, which at the time seemed to be an unreasonable goal. However Coach Hampton was confident that this was a reachable goal and encouraged not only the top 12 guys, but the the JV guys as well, to join in and train with the top 12.This was the summer of 2016, I had just had track state and made it to finals for the 4x8 only to get my relay disqualified because I cut into the inside lanes of the track before the cut off line. This had been our goal all season, make it to state, get to finals, and see what happens. Causing my relay to get disqualified is one my worst moments…

Whenever I think back to highschool I am always reminded of the fun times I had playing sports. The friendships I built and diciplines I learned still affect my life today. Playing volleyball helped me learn good time management skills especially when I started playing for the local club team. The highschool team was demanding but when club season started that became your life. School, practice, homework, sleep was my weekday schedule. The weekend tournaments didn’t allow for much of a break either. A minimum of 4 matches and if you won the bracket, you could expect atleast 2 more. Putting in hard work and dedicating countless hours wasn’t all for nothing though.…

I’ll walk. I am so excited my stomach is doing the summersaults again, I bet if the insides of your organs had muscles my stomach on the inside would be so fit and flexible with all of the summersaults and backflips that it does. I saw Grey on the phone and then I heard the word “Babe please no” and I looked away for a second and looked back and what I saw I knew exactly what it was a panic attack I ran over and grabbed him and sat him down on the ground before he fell over on the hard floor and busted his head…

Have you ever thought where would you be if something never happened? The thought of that goes through my mind almost every day. What if I never decided to jump on the trampoline or go downstairs? Everything would change, I wouldn’t even have to be writing this essay at the moment. I went downstairs to the basement to watch my older brother get a haircut from our family friend until my little brother decided to go under the trampoline while I was jumping on it. When that happened without knowing he was under me I jumped casually until I heard a loud bang and something resisting me to jump high on the trampoline. It was my little brother's head, at first I thought it was funny until I saw blood gushing down his chin.…
